BU choir(s) you are in: Chamber, Symphonic

Music background prior to BU: A Capella, Choir

Why did you join BU choirs?: As a freshman studying biology, I want to experience life as a music major student. Through choir, I met amazing singers that inspired me both technically and musically. Choir is a great piece of my life that balances out with academics.

What’s your favourite thing about the choirs you’re in so far?: I love being exposed to a diverse selection of music, it trains me to be a better singer. The vibe in Chamber choir is super cute, and I feel very supported by my peers.

What are you looking forward to in the future? (musically related) Being in an opera production! (Hopefully)

Fun fact: The name of my cat is Cat. 🐱

Major: Vocal Performance and Business Administration

Instagram handle:

Music background prior to BU: Prior to coming to Boston University, I have found multiple ways to get immersed in the music industry. Last June, I was a Cabaret Performer with a company named “Next Stop Broadway” in which I performed at the Triad Theater alongside 8 talented musicians. Additionally, I was the Drum Major/ 6 year member in the HBDMB. I was also a member of Huntington Choral Society, which is my towns’audition-based choir that is run by Jennifer Miceli (Music Education Professor at LIU), and have been a member of my high school’s chamber choir, talent shows, A-Capella, and was a percussion tutor for over a year through Tri-M Honor Society.

Why did you join BU choirs?: Aside from choir being a requirement of my major, I have found so much joy in learning new pieces of music and creating incredible sound with such talented students. Also, I have loved the sense of community that choir has introduced me to. The long rehearsals and hours of practicing only bring the School of Music students closer together.

What’s your favourite thing about the choirs you’re in so far?: My favorite part of choir is being not only directed by Dr. Parsley, but also the graduate conducting students. I have learned so much from them, and have enjoyed being a part of their learning process as I learn my parts along the way. Having connections with the graduate students gives me the opportunity to get first-hand insight into different career pathways and create a more collaborative environment in rehearsals.

What are you looking forward to in the future? (musically related) As I look into my future plans, I am excited to increase my vocal capabilities and begin getting my feet wet in the music industry through my business courses.

Fun fact: I am a twin! 👯‍♀️

BU choir(s) you are in: Symphonic Chorus

Music background prior to BU: I have been doing choir since 2nd grade, and have since participated in local groups, festivals, and the All-State chorus. I was president and soprano section leader of my high school’s concert choir, where we performed and competed at MICCA yearly. I joined the South Shore Children’s Chorus, a local choral organization, my sophomore year of high school, which allowed me the opportunity to travel and sing with choirs across the country!

Why did you join BU choirs?: I joined BU choirs to learn classical choral music in a faster-paced environment. After high school, I was ready for a new challenge and Symphonic Chorus provides that. I have learned a lot about technique, singing different styles of music, and endurance as we do longer pieces.

What’s your favourite thing about the choirs you’re in so far?: My favorite thing about the Symphonic Chorus is how it brings everyone together once a week. I can use that time to forget about my other classes, and see people I would not see otherwise. I also love to see members of the community participate, showing my favorite part of music: community.

What are you looking forward to in the future? (musically related) I look forward to singing the next parts of Messiah in future years! I had so much fun participating in Messiah Part 1, and I love that I have the opportunity to learn such an iconic piece of music early on.

Fun fact: I met one of my favorite composers, Jennifer Lucy Cooke, when one of my choirs commissioned her for a piece! You may know her from her popular piece, Time. 🎵🕰️
