The May Art Walk had eight venues scheduled. Here are photos from five of the venues. I couldn't get to the Chetco Community Public Library before it closed at 5 p.m., which offered a continuation of last month's featured artist, Lisa Amato. Whimsical Griffin had no new work. Wild Rivers Film Festival had to cancel its program.

The Second Saturday Art Walk happening from 3 to 6 p.m. May 9 will spotlight youth film projects as well as the creations from artists in the community.

The public is welcome to meet the artists at the eight participating venues. Food and drink will be available at all locations.

Wild Rivers Film Festival will will go wild when it screens the 2025 Wild Rivers Film Workshop project, a 10-minute, web-based pilot titled “Wild Wild Rivers.” The artists and filmmakers are local youth in collaboration with professional filmmakers from around the country.

In this short comedy pilot, director Dan Springen and a professional filmmaking crew assist local youth in creating a professional-level production. This piece of film art will soon be going to regional and national film festivals. Spring and some of the youth will have a question and answer session at 4 p.m. at Compass Rose Cafe, where the film will be shown throughout the Art Walk.

Springen, an award-winning producer and director, brings more than 15 years of experience producing films, teaching filmmaking courses, and running a variety of film festivals, including the Orlando Film Festival and the Wild Rivers Film Festival. “Wild Wild Rivers” is his second production for the local Wild Rivers Film Workshop.

Brian Childers, a woodworker and painter, is featured during the month at Brian Scott Gallery, 515 Chetco Ave. At 4:30 p.m. he will talk about his work.

“Brian creates wood bowls and more, turning the exotic woods he loves to use into shapes and fine finishes, influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement, the modern look of Prairie Design and the subtle elegance of shapes and designs found in the arts of Japan,” said Paula Edwards, gallery curator. “Turning exotic woods is Brian’s passion and now he has lately dipped his artistic toes into painting.”

Both his wood creations and paintings will be on display. Brian will be joined by musician Michael Johnson on guitar. The gallery has three floors of art displays by more than a dozen artists. For more information visit brianscottartgallery.com, or call 541-412-8687.

Returning after a winter hiatus is Kim’s Garden Party, 301 Oak St, where art, music and plants will be featured. Various original pieces created in watercolor, oils and mixed media. Don Beckner will provide entertainment on guitar and vocals. For more information, call 541-412-7273.

Lisa Amato returns to the Chetco Community Public Library Forest Room Gallery with watercolor paintings on display.

“Watercolor painting is a hobby that started during the Covid-19 lockdown when I needed something creative to occupy my mind and keep me balanced,” Amato said. “I find that watercolor is both challenging and relaxing, and I love that I’m always learning. I am self-taught and look for inspiration in anything from the simplest flower to a grand and sweeping seascape.”

The April 11 Second Saturday Art Walk promises a plethora of art to see and artists to meet during the monthly event from 3 to 6 p.m. at seven venues in downtown Brookings.
Chetco Community Public Library rejoins the Art Walk after an absence. The gallery in the Forest Room will feature “Shades of Nature: A Selection of Watercolor Paintings” by Lisa Amato from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Light refreshments will be served and Amato will be present to answer questions. The library, located at 405 Alder St., closes at 5 p.m. For information about library programs, visit chetcolibrary.org or call 541-469-7738.
Three participants have special programs during the Art Walk, including Pelican Bay Arts Association, Wild Rivers Film Festival and Brian Scott Gallery.
Pelican Bay Arts Association will host a reception for April’s featured artist Tom Moody at Manley Art Center, 433 Oak St. Moody, a Brookings resident for nearly 40 years, creates paintings in various media and well as a variety of kinds of art.

Wild Rivers Film Festival will show the short documentary “Invisible Enemy,” co-directed by Mark Shapiro and Douglas Brian Miller, at Compass Rose Cafe, 555 Chetco Ave.
The 15-minute film, which will be repeated throughout the Art Walk, reveals the hidden cost of “top-secret” military exercises in Nevada, where service members were unknowingly exposed to deadly radiation. Now battling cancer and denied benefits, these veterans fight to prove their service — and claim the care they were promised.
Shapiro and Miller are award-winning directors who have been collaborating since 2005. They began by creating short-form and mini-documentary content for Monster.com’s Diversity Leadership Program, highlighting the experiences of marginalized and underrepresented college students nationwide.

Magdalena Huybreghs is the featured artist for the month at Brian Scott Gallery. She is a photographer captures moments in daily life, while infusing humor. She is also a watercolor painter with images of flowers and landscapes. She will be interviewed at 4:30 p.m.

The Second Saturday Art Walk March 14 will feature the luck of the Irish adrift on mystical horses at six venues open from 3 to 6 p.m.
The monthly event providing opportunity to meet artists and provides a means to view their work in a relaxed atmosphere.
Kicking off the presentations is an artist reception at Manley Art Center. This month’s featured artist is Nancy Farrell, who will show batik as an art form. She will be interviewed at 3:30 p.m.
Farrell developed a passion for art, including visual and textile art, ceramics, sculpture and hand painted art tiles. In college she was introduced to batik and it became her favorite medium. Batik, an ancient Indonesian art form, involves creating expressions that resemble oil or watercolor paintings on fabric.
Manley Art Center is at 433 Oak St. The gallery also features a variety of art created by Pelican Bay Arts Association members displayed throughout the month. Appetizers and wine will be served. A second presentation of the evening will be at Compass Rose Cafe where Wild Rivers Film Festival will have a question and answer session at; 4 p.m. with Randy Dersham, director of “Oregon’s Boat: the McKenzie River Drift Boat.”
In this short documentary film, Dersham explores the history of the McKenzie River drift boats, from its beginnings in the early 20th century through its evolution as whitewater recreation interest increased.

The final presentation of the evening will be at Brian Scott gallery where oil paintings by wildlife artist Judith Falconer. After eight years, Falconer is closing her studio and has given the gallery the will have her art for sale at 50 percent off all month. Until the Art Walk, there will be a raffle of three small paintings. Also the gallery will be raffling a $30 gift certificate to any art in the gallery and $30 toward any Christina art. Tickets may be purchased at the gallery, 515 Chetco Ave. The drawing will take place around 4:30 p.m. after a short talk about her work.

“Lucky Horse Shoe Day” will take place at Ambiance by the Sea, and will include a visit by a member of the 1970 Curry County Fair Rodeo Court. Guests will be able to meet and view art by Michelle W. Valentine’s Day is for lovers of art, and one way to find love is by visiting the six venue’s participating in the Second Saturday Art Walk in downtown Brookings.
The monthly festivities will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, featuring art workshop previews, Valentine’s Day treats and love stories.
Kicking off the afternoon at Manley Art Center, Megan Boye will share her love of creating abstract mixed-media assemblages and drawings. Her work centers on transferring natural forms into something new through recreating, repurposing and reimagining what already exists. She explores the hidden potential within the base materials and creates something new.
Boye, a graduate of Brookings-Harbor High School and who has since lived throughout the United States, will be interviewed at 3:30 p.m. Manley Art Center is at 433 Oak St. The gallery also features a variety of art created by Pelican Bay Arts Association members displayed throughout the month. The love continues when the Wild Rivers Film Festival presents the short film “A Baffin Island Vacation: Love on Ice.” The film will be shown every 30 minutes at Compass Rose Cafe, 555 Chetco Ave. At 4 p.m., a recorded presentation by filmmaker Sarah McNair-Landry will be presented.
The short travel film follows the adventurers Erik and Sarah on a 69-day human-powered journey along the remote northern coastline of Baffin Island. Traveling by kite ski, they traverse vast Arctic landscapes by skiing mountains, climbing a wall, and crossing glaciers in search of untouched rivers to whitewater kayak.
