The Off Broadway Players The Off Broadway Players is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community theatre in Broadway, Virginia Our goal is to provide an entertainment venue for the Community.

Named by readers of Virginia Living as one of the Top Performing Arts Groups in Virginia. By offering theatre, dance, music and entertainment and by offering quality instruction in the performing arts, we hope to enrich the lives of the community we serve while building for the future.

Flashback Friday:

Director Michael Strawderman (of the upcoming “Ransom of Red Chief”and 2024’s “To Kill A Mockingbird”) helped bring this classic Christmas story to the Off Broadway Players stage in December of 2022.

AUDITION REMINDER:

Auditions for “The Ransom of Red Chief” will be held Next Sunday, August 23rd and Monday, August 24th on the J. Frank Hillyard Middle School stage.

*To access the building, please park in the parking lot behind the school and enter through Door #9

Upon arrival, all candidates will complete an audition form upon which they will indicate the roles they are interested in auditioning for.

Auditions will be comprised of "cold readings" of selected scenes from the script.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Rehearsals will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm. Every effort will be made to keep rehearsals within a two-hour limit. Be aware, however, that the length of rehearsals may increase during the final two weeks of the rehearsal process.

*Cast members between the ages of 8-12 must have a parent/guardian that remains with them during scheduled rehearsals.

*All cast members, especially those under driving age, must find appropriate transportation to and from all rehearsals.

*All Cast Members are expected to attend every rehearsal scheduled for their character.

*All Cast Members MUST be present for the final three weeks of rehearsals and performances (November 1-22).

*Cast Members are expected to meet all deadlines established by the director (line memorization, costumes, etc.) and may be asked to assist in purchasing some of the costume items for your character in the show.

Friday Flashback:

Michael Strawderman, Director of the upcoming “The Ransom of Red Chief”, was most recently seen on stage as the hilarious King Sextimus the Silent in our summer production of “Once Upon A Mattress”, but he has also directed several past productions for the Off Broadway Players, most recently “To Kill A Mockingbird” in the spring of 2024.

Sadly, there are no more performances this weekend, but we are so appreciative to everyone who came out the last two weekends for our 2026 Summer Musical, “Once Upon A Mattress” - we hope everyone enjoyed it as much as our cast and crew enjoyed being a part of this show!

The final three performances of The Off Broadway Players' Once Upon A Mattress are this weekend: Friday (7/31) & Saturday (8/1) @ 7 p.m. and Sunday (8/2) @ 3 p.m. in the J.
