Last night we attended the NYS Dept. of State Training for Local Officials regarding Historic Preservation and Open Space Planning. Historic rehabilitation creates local, high-paying, high skilled, jobs; stimulates the local economy and 'primes the economic pump. The Historic Tax Credit leverages private investment and drives investment to low income neighborhoods. Protecting our open space provides a multitude of benefits: environmental (i.e. protecting drinking water and water sheds, climate resiliency), economic (i.e. stimulates eco-tourism, supports agriculture production), and community (increased property values,more opportunities for recreation and socialization). It's time we band together and work towards these things which create an abundant life for ourselves and for generations to come.
