One week from today! Don't miss global bluegrass ambassadors Henhouse Prowlers, who have toured more than 25 countries working with the U.S. State Department, right here in Bristol. Connecticut! A rare opportunity to see this talented, energetic and charismatic band in an intimate house concert setting.
Doors open at 4pm for potluck and social time, concert begins at 5pm. Link for details and advance tickets in our Facebook event!
Friends, don't make the mistake of thinking of Henhouse Prowlers as "just" bluegrass. Like many artists we host at Acousticool, they do not fit neatly into a simple genre description. You can expect world class instrumentation, amazingly tight vocal harmonies, energy and showmanship—and yes, a variety of songs and styles that go well beyond bluegrass as a genre. Trust us when we tell you, this is a show not to be missed!
Next Sunday, August 4th. Doors and potluck begin at 4pm, concert begins at 5pm (no opener). Find the link for details and tickets in our Facebook event!

Come check them out in an intimate setting where you don't have to fight the crowds and can focus on the music.

The first thing I did after deciding to move from Florida to Connecticut 10 years ago, before I even started packing, was buy a ticket to see @sarahjarosz in a Sunday afternoon matinee concert at Infinity Hall in Norfolk. I had been a fan already for a while and was pretty excited for the opportunity catch my first live show right after landing in my new home state. But that was just the beginning, we have been to many venues throughout New England to see Sarah perform since early 2104. As much as I also love Sarah’s many collaborative projects, I get most excited when she tours on her solo material. I couldn’t help but reflect during last night’s show @thekate_ct on how Sarah’s music has been such a huge part of the soundtrack to our 10 years in Connecticut. Studio recordings are often the gateway into live performances by my favorite artists, but somehow it’s often the other way around with Sarah Jarosz, so I always look forward to hearing her new material in person—plus she puts together the best bands! That said, I have to say I’m delighted that she has kept this cover of Ring Them Bells in her set list all these years later, it’s a gorgeous common thread through so many shows over the last decade.
I last saw @markandmaggieoconnor at The Station Inn in Nashville during the Americana Fest in fall 2019, not so long before the pandemic hit. When I got a ticket for last night’s show @thekate_ct, I was simply thinking about how I’d enjoy seeing them play again. And then, a few songs in, it started to feel like a real full circle moment. Which is not to suggest that COVID-19 is completely behind us, but just reflecting on the journey that the last four years has been for us all. and feeling gratitude for being able to enjoy such a wonderful show in a beautiful theater. The talent, musicianship, storytelling and clear love for performing all made it really special evening. This particular clip followed a story (from his new memoir) about Mark’s treasured white fiddle, found hanging on a barn wall when he was young, and it was played without any amplification. Somehow their performance of Appalachia Waltz sent me flashing through personal memories of holidays past. Highly recommend if you ever get a chance to get out to one of their concerts!
