Combining function with aesthetics, the Wizard of Clay is a showcase for unique Finger Lakes region creations. Green leaves from indigenous plants are picked daily and pressed onto the soft clay of a freshly made pot leaving beautiful impressions on our Bristoleaf pottery. Our Crystalline glazed pottery shimmers in delicious colors with jewel-like qualities.

FRENCH BUTTER KEEPERS...

Back in stock in the store, with a few colors available online. Our current stock of french butter keepers, aka butter bells, all have leaves on them. If you are looking for these in our winter glazes (no leaves), we will make some of those... ya know... in the Winter.

REMINDER... our shipping system sometimes can't handle pricing for handmade pottery. When appropriate, we will adjust the shipping cost from our end and refund the difference.

REMINDER #2... there is no such thing as "free shipping".

We have our annual late summer back-up occurring in the Wizard's workshop. Every year, about this time, we have stacks of pieces waiting to go through their 2nd firing. This happens because our college staff leave us and before they do, we try to get leaves on as many pieces as we can. Then we spend a few weeks glazing them all.

Online re-stock will start to happen in the next few weeks. So if you don't see it online, and it has leaves on it, THEY ARE COMING (hopefully).

In the meantime, keep calm and butter on!

OUR BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE...

We made a small custom dinnerware set (plates and cereal bowls) and screwed up on the shade of purple the customer requested. Our bad. Now, we will be spending all next week remaking the set in the shade requested (hopefully🤞).

Local? Local enough? We have a limited amount of these colored Bristoleaf® plates and bowls in the store.

If you follow/ visit us, you know that colored leaf pieces are our most time consuming pieces to create. Over the past 5-6+ years, we have limited colored leaf pieces with our shiny glaze (typically they are our "matte-style" finish).

Do they cost more? Yes!

Why?

Because we value our people & someone has to remove ALL the colors left over after the leaves are put on. If not, the color bleeds through and it...well... doesn't look great. Which is why we stopped normal production of them.

WE’VE BEEN BUSY….

So busy that we haven’t had time to post much. Rest assured, we are getting leaves on as many pieces as we can! We even have a few colored Bristoleaf pieces trickling out. A little early? Maybe. But our fantastic summer crew heads back to college in a few weeks. Colored leaf pieces are our most labor intensive projects so we tend to do them before we lose our lovely ladies to college.

Rainy days make for great indoor shopping adventures. Open 7 days, 9-5pm. Hope to see you soon.

I SEE A KING... DO YOU?

Black and white shaved porcelain mugs are back with VERY LIMITED AVAILABILITY. We will not make these again until next year. They take forever to get through the process.

Unfortunately, pottery math ain't mathin' up in our favor with this round.

60 mugs thrown on a wheel
5 "lost" out of the starting gate
22 the handle didn't cooperate
33 came out this morning
7 sold as I was trying to post this

WE'VE ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU SHOULDN'T MISS US....

But now it's "official"!

Fresh from the publisher, 111 Places in the Finger Lakes that you must not miss, is a interesting collection of places throughout our area. As life-long New Yorkers, and long time Finger Lakes residents, we were surprised to learn about a few of these amazing locations we were unaware of. This book is well written, alphabetically presented, and has great content. We are so thankful to be included!

Swing in and check it out. Available for purchase in the store. We sold out of the 1st round faster than I could post it, so we ordered more. We are stocked up now. This book would be a great read for yourself, or a gift for someone else.

ALSO, thinking this would be a great book to put in your AirBnB or VRBO/ Vacation rental.

There is a LONG way to go, but our most elusive creation might just be available later this summer. So far, Mother Nature has been cooperating and our masks are keeping an eye on the first (of many) steps until completion.

We are NOT taking holds or “reservations” for these. A lot can go wrong between now and then. This is just a quick post to let you know we are hopeful.

MUG SHOT MONDAY WINTER STYLE....

It sure feels a little like winter outside! Ok... ok...not really but burrrrr❄️

We made a limited round of REGULAR SIZED cedar mugs early for those customers who like to Christmas shop in the summer. If all goes well, we will make another round this Fall. If you most certainly want to secure yours, here is your chance.

We use real cedar branches for these, and hand paint all the berries on them. They are all similar but different. These are our "normal" or "typical" sized mugs we make. Last year, we did this design on our bigger camp style mugs.

Not hitting the beach today? Or maybe the lawn is too wet to mow? We would love to see you up on the hill. We have new 2026 Bristoleaf® pieces coming through everyday.

We do!

PURPLE & White Shaved porcelain mugs are emerging. There are about 25 that came out today, Thursday. The remaining ones will come out this weekend. Unless we make another round this summer (very unlikely), this is your chance to scoop one if you are thinking Christmas 2026.

The mugs are $45 and will likely go up with the next round. We have not changed the price of these since we started making them again, but will have to at some point.

We do NOT put these on our website since they are each too one-of-a-kind. Email if you want us to pick out a mug for you and send it. Include your shipping address. The email is [email protected]

YEP...IT'S TRUE... TOMORROW TOO!

Actually, we don't close again until Thanksgiving Day.

No, we don't make/ ask anyone work on holidays. That's just how we roll at the Wizard of Clay. It is an advantage of working for a small family run business which has owners who are present everyday. Plus, the potter is here making pieces on the wheel so we stay open 7 days a week, 9-5pm.

So if you are looking for something to do while you wait for clouds to dissipate, we're here for you. So is if a tasty beverage & lunch is what you seek.

Either way, we hope you enjoy your rain free afternoon.

PS... Purple & White shaved mugs should 🤞emerge later this week. We had a few come through, but the rest are on their way. Black and White will likely be mid-June. We will post to FB/IG when it's time.
