A SPECIAL SNEAK PEEK: SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY IS COMING TO THE CAROUSEL MUSEUM IN SPRING 2027!
We are excited to share a few photographs from our recent visit to the Vermont studio of David Stoltz, an accomplished American sculptor whose remarkable artistic career spans more than six decades.
Stoltz received his artistic education at some of the nation's most respected institutions, including the Art Students League of New York, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and Pratt Institute. He also apprenticed with celebrated American sculptor William Zorach. Throughout his distinguished career, Stoltz has received numerous honors, including scholarships and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. His work has been exhibited internationally at prestigious institutions, including the St. Louis Art Museum, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, and the Storm King Art Center in New York.
What makes his work particularly exciting for The Carousel Museum is his extraordinary artistic interpretation of the carousel.
In his ambitious project, A Ride on the Carousel, Stoltz reimagines the carousel beyond its traditional role as an amusement ride, transforming it into a powerful artistic metaphor for life's journey. His imaginative figures, abstract forms, and dynamic compositions explore movement, time, human experience, and life's continuous cycle.
During our studio visit, we had the wonderful opportunity to meet with the artist, explore his creative world, and select an exceptional collection of sculptures, drawings, and other original artworks for his upcoming solo exhibition.
This exhibition will offer our visitors a fascinating new perspective on carousel art, bringing together the traditions of carousel imagery and the expressive possibilities of contemporary sculpture.
