I just heard from the Carousel Museum. I had everything lined up for a BIG comeback this year, but due to Omicron, they are not having any events larger than 50 people. I am so sorry. We WILL be back! Just... not this spring.

Taking down the green triangles. Like when I was doing the white bars for the flowers, often, lines don't lie flat and pretty until you sow a third row, so these need a little help. I'm using the same thin gold thread I used for the marking lines, as they're an accent, but I don't want them to be too noticeable.

Last night's work. One more round of the bright red. This is really at the point where I could leave it alone, but it's not to the original plan yet. Then again, the original plan didn't include this current round. We'll see!

Greetings, friends!
I have a lot of people who say they're interested in Wreck Havoc, the virtual escape room game we have planned for March 20. However, I have not had anyone sign up yet. We need a minimum number to play the game, so if you want this to happen, I need you to get your place secured now. The more people we have who sign up this week, the more Steampunk and Brass Ring specific content we can have them put in.
If anyone has a problem with getting their ticket, please let me know so I can fix it. Here's the link-

GREAT NEWS! Due to a generous, anonymous donation, we've been able to lower the price for the Escape Room from $38 to $35! Everyone who's bought up until this point will be refunded the extra. Remember, the more people sign up early, the more customization and Steampunkiness we can have! That said, this event is great for anyone who likes puzzles and games, and not necessarily Steampunk, so do please share this link and invote your friends.
We have a new event page, too! https://www.facebook.com/events/1080620472459423/?acontext=%7B%22action_history%22%3A[%7B%22surface%22%3A%22page%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22page_admin_bar%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A%22%7B%5C%22page_id%5C%22%3A128213107379187%7D%22%7D%2C%7B%22surface%22%3A%22events_admin_tool%22%2C%22mechanism%22%3A%22recommended_actions%22%2C%22extra_data%22%3A%22[]%22%7D]%2C%22has_source%22%3Atrue%7D

OH WOW is this years Brass Ring going to be fun! Of course, we can't be together in person. Instead, we're teaming up with the creators of the BEST escape room I've ever played, Escape New Haven, to solve puzzles, collaborate, negotiate, and scheme to solve a mystery. There will be prizes! But mostly, there will be a lot of fun.

Our event will be on Saturday, March 20, at 4pm, on the online event space Gather. Each player will need their own computer. Once you've signed up, you will receive an email with a practice link, so you can log in and explore how the game space works before you actually play. We expect the game to run about an hour and a half to two hours. You will not be on camera for any of this, so play in your PJs, or dress in your Steampunk finest. Or, do one and say you're doing the other. We won't judge :)

That same email will be an opportunity for you all to send messages to the other players. Merchants can have their store listed, or events can post links to their sites, or individuals or businesses can put up a logo. As always, we will be donating profits to our once and future home, the New England Carousel Museum.

Pride Masks Fundraiser – Peacock's Nest

Having to re-fight the same racial equality fight we did 50 years ago is NOT what any of us wanted in Retrofuturism! Please do what you can to help.
I had originally intended to sell Pride Flag masks and give to a local Pride charity, and African-inspired print fabrics to give to support protests. As I have listened to more PoC voices, I realize more and more that what threatens one group seen as “other” threatens all of us. Until there is no longer an “other”, we must continue to speak up, and to protect the vunerable. Therefore, all purchases of Pride and African-Inspired Design masks will include a donation split between two causes- The Center for Constitutional Rights, and the National Bail Network Emergency Response Fund.
If you don’t need a mask personally, you can still help! Choose the “Give a Mask” option in the drop-down menu. I will make the same donation to these causes, and in addition, I will give a regular mask to local community organizers, so everyone who chooses to speak out publicly can do so as safely as possible. https://www.peacocksneststudio.com/product/pride-masks-fundraiser/

50 years ago, the first Pride parade was held on the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a result of police oppression at a LGBTQ+ nightclub. Sadly, but proudly, it’s time to take a stand again. There’s a new call for all good people, including people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and all their frien...

If you're not watching the "Streampunk" live feed from COGS Steampunk Expo May 17-19, 2019, you're missing out on some excellent Maker presentations. I'm learning how to block a wool hat right now, and it's fascinating. Last night was common Victorian poisons. It's not all great, but totally worth the look. Also please check out the Cogs Maker Market, which is on Facebook, but I can't link to for some reason.

Despite Brass Ring taking a hiatus this year, I already have that day blocked off on my calendar. I seems a shame to just sit home! Is there anyone (relatively) local to the Carousel Museum who might like to pay a visit there anyhow on March 14th and then descend upon a restaurant for dinner after?
For those wanting a little head start on your attire before our event in March, stop in at Fashionista in New Haven! Purchase and rentals available, and while I was there this morning a fine couple was negotiating for a gray tailcoat/top hat/ascot ensemble for himself and a sequined "flapper" dress for herself. A fine establishment, run by two fine ladies as quirky and eclectic as their wares!

Something tells me at least one of these kids isn't buying it.
So, what new costuming ideas are YOU working on for this year?
I may need this. In other news, Brass Ring tickets go on sale Monday!

Should we plan a fall visit?
Busily preparing for Brass Ring Academy this weekend. (https://www.facebook.com/BrassRingCT/?ref=br_rs) Two quick questions for friends, fans, and followers planning to attend the CT event. First, as far as Canes Enable goes, I estimate that I have between 1500-2000 total items in stock. I calculate that there will be enough setup space for roughly 500 pieces. In choosing what to bring, is there anything specific you might be looking for? Carved Folk Art and figural Canes? Higher end antiques? Weapon canes? Sparring canes? Staffs? Truncheons? Shillelaghs and Blackthorns? Gadget and system canes? Rare high end gentlemen's umbrellas? Modern floral umbrellas? Victorian or Edwardian umbrellas or parasols? Pagodas? Double Canopies? En tout cas? Let me know if you have any preference. Otherwise, I am likely to bring a random assortment. (But there will be more in two weeks time for Wicked Faire 2018). Second question, has to do with my presentations and workshops listed on the schedule. Could I get a show of hands for how many of you are planning to participate in the Saturday morning workshop addressing Suffragettes, Suffrajitsu, and Kicking Ass in a Corset. As well as how many of you are hoping to participate in the Sunday Morning workshop on a exploration of the history and use of swordcanes / swordsticks? If I have a better idea of how many people are participating, I can better estimate how much training equipment I should bring along for these workshops. Thank you for your time and attention. See you all on Saturday. Until then, I return you to your regularly scheduled program. (PS- please feel free to share this or tag relevant individuals)
I'm having trouble using the group code when booking hotels online, the hotel information page says to 'use group code “Brass Ring”' but the group code input on the hotel's (Double Tree's) web site only accepts six characters. Is the group code only available over the phone?
