ABOUT THE SHOW
When Mrs Ferrars is discovered dead from an apparent su***de, the tiny village of King’s Abbott is rocked by scandal. Her fiancé, Roger Ackroyd, the wealthiest man in town, suspects foul play. But within hours, Ackroyd too is found dead- a victim of murder! Fortunately for the police, the mysterious Hercule Poirot has arrived in King’s Abbott, and is on the case. This new stage adaptation features a cast of killer suspects in what has been called the most cunning whodunnit in the history of mystery.

Elkhart Civic Theatre is holding auditions for its all-youth production of Gertrude Chandler Warner’s The Boxcar Children adapted by Jon Jory on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6 at 1:00pm at the Bristol Opera House in Bristol, IN. Performances are October 9, 10, and 11 at Elkhart Civic Theatre at the Bristol Opera House.

Auditions consist of cold readings from the script. Please bring a list of all conflicts from September 8- October 11, 2026.

“The Boxcar Children” is co-directed by Annette Kaczanowski and Brock Butler assisted by Rachelle Haney.

CHARACTERS:
For this production we are seeking a flexible ensemble of 10-15 actors between the ages of 8-18

The Alden Siblings
Henry- (15) The oldest Alden sibling and the primary protector of the family. Responsible, hardworking, practical, and determined.
Jess- (14) The eldest sister and Henry’s partner in keeping the family together. Practical, organized, nurturing, and protective.
Violet- (12) The sensitive, gentle middle child. Helpful, caring, and somewhat quieter than Henry and Jess.
Benny- ( 8 ) The youngest Alden and often the comic/lighthearted element of the family. Curious, enthusiastic, innocent, and energetic.

The Stage Manager- The Storyteller/Narrator. This person is the audience’s guide through the story. Seeking a performer who is comfortable speaking directly to an audience and shifting quickly between narration and participation.

In addition to the above characters, we are seeking an ensemble of actors to portray various townspeople and adults in the story such as the children’s Grandfather, Dr. McAllister, the Baker’s wife, and more. It is likely each member of this ensemble will have a couple of different roles to play.

Elkhart Civic Theatre auditions are open to all and no fees are charged to participate in any ECT production.

We’re still recovering from the emotional closing weekend of Dear Evan Hansen. Thank you to everyone who was part of the unforgettable journey of bringing this production to our stage, and to our incredible community, who showed up to support us as we told this moving, deeply human story. It will always hold a special place in our hearts.
