Join us this summer for Bach, Telemann, and virtuoso, contemporary and underrepresented composers


Open to professional players and teachers, pre-college students, college/g

rad students, and amateurs. Though there will in-depth exploration of the solo Bach violin works, we also welcome violists, cellists, and bassists. WHAT WE WILL DO:

In the month before the workshop, participants will have two lessons by Zoom with either Gary Capozziello or Katie Lansdale. These lessons will be scheduled according to your availability and the instructors’. At the workshop, we will combine lessons and masterclasses with lively discussion sessions. Participants will observe and perform in Masterclasses with Katie Lansdale, and have lessons with Gary Capozziello. Dr. Capozziello will also lead group sessions in Meditation and Alexander Technique. The workshops also include group playing of string ensemble music, listening to professional performances, and interactions with "practice pods", or small groups of participants working towards similar goals. Participants will also have practice time on the premises. The workshop culminates in a Sunday afternoon concert featuring participants and instructors in group and solo performances. During free time, participants are welcome to hike the surrounding area and explore the renowned, on-site historic garden. Meals are communal and the program will offer optional evening group activities. Schedule:

The workshop lasts 6 days, but participants have the option of coming for fewer days. Monday: Participants are welcome to arrive at 5 pm or later, unless they choose to arrive by 9 am Tuesday morning. Tuesday through Saturday, the workshop begins daily at 9:30 and ends by 5. (**Please note that there are alternate schedules available for those who need a shorter day. Optional evening events will be offered. On Sunday, participants can expect to be able to leave Sunday around 6:30, unless they choose to stay overnight. Lodging is available in bedrooms in the Main House. Rooms are limited to the first 10 people to sign up, and need to be reserved as soon as possible. Some participants will be assigned roommates. Lodging costs an additional $25/night. Connecticut participants are welcome to commute if they choose to. Food: Meals are provided by the workshop and are prepared/cleaned communally. Fundraising helps keep this workshop highly affordable.

6 days--- $630 per participant, $170 per auditor. It is recommended that participants attend for 6 days. However, to accommodate those with limited availability, two other options are possible:

4 days----$420 per participant, $115 per auditor.
2 days---$210 per participant, $75 per auditor

Award-winning violinist Gary Capozziello is highly active as a soloist, chamber musician. Dr. Capozziello is Assistant Concertmaster of the and teaches at the Hartt School and Hotchkiss School. He has given masterclasses at schools such as The Boston Conservatory, SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music, and Central China Normal University. Capozziello's achievements were highlighted in Hartford Magazine's 2018 feature "Inspired: A Renaissance of Young Artists," and the 2023 cover of "The Artful Mind." His recent concerto engagements include performances with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra New England, American Chamber Orchestra, the New Haven Civic Orchestra, and the Connecticut Valley Orchestra. Capozziello has performed in concert halls, chamber series’ and music festivals throughout North America, Europe, China and Hong Kong. As the artistic director of the International American Classical Music Festival and the Hartford Classical Music Academy, Capozziello toured China's eastern seaboard performing concerts and giving masterclasses. He has performed at festivals such as the Kneisel Hall Chamber Festival, Ottawa Chamberfest, the Cambridge International Music Academy (UK), Music from Salem, and the Texas Music Festival, along with performances in Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall, Kings College Chapel and Lyric Hall. Capozziello founded the Atlas Piano Trio in 2016, and the Kara String Quartet in 2018. He studied at SUNY-Purchase Conservatory (B.M.), the New England Conservatory (M.M.) and at the Hartt School (DMA), studying with Laurie Smukler, Lucy Chapman, Nick Kitchen and Katie Lansdale.

Violinist/director Katie Lansdale is widely acclaimed as a soloist, chamber musician, and educator. She has performed as soloist and chamber artist in North/South America and Europe, and on numerous American concert series, including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall and Lincoln Center’s Rose Room. Winner of Grand Prizes at the Fischoff and Yellow Springs national chamber competitions, Dr. Lansdale has collaborated with Yo Yo Ma, Felix Galimir, Donald Weilerstein, the Miami and Shanghai Quartets, and Charles Neidich. For over three decades she has been a member of the internationally-acclaimed Lions Gate Trio, trio in residence at the Hartt School, recording for Centaur and Triton records and performing across Europe and the Eastern US. Lansdale's concerto appearances have included with the National Symphony, the Austin Mozart Orchestra, the Schroeder Classical Orchestra, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, the NY Spectrum Orchestra, the Piedmont Valley Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony and the New York Repertory Orchestra. Lauded for her wide interests and adventuresome programming, Lansdale was invited to present works by composers from around the world at Juilliard's 2026 Delay Symposium. Lansdale has garnered particular attention for her performances of solo Bach, performing the complete cycle over a dozen times in North and South America. A student of with Ronda Cole, Josef Gingold, Felix Galimir, Donald Weilerstein and Mitchell Stern, Lansdale graduated cm laude from Yale and earned graduate music degrees (M.M., D.M.A.) at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Manhattan School of Music. She teaches at and the Hartt School, , where she directs the annual Ode to Joy chamber festival.

Want to be inspired? The Solo Strings Workshop at Promisek features in-depth musical exploration with world-class faculty in a stunningly beautiful setting. On a 300-acre escape surrounded by rivers, the Promisek property boasts a historic garden designed by noted landscape architect Beatrix Farrand.

Workshop participants regularly enjoy hiking, relaxing, and even practicing outside surrounded by the beautiful scenery!
