The Character of Color: Featured Artist David Pollard
Opening Reception: Sunday, August 9, 1 to 3 PM

Metro Art Studios is delighted to have an exhibit of the work of David Pollard as Featured Artist, starting August 9. Pollard is a Stamford-based artist whose work bridges the graphic and painterly, drawing inspiration from mid-century modern design. After years of representational illustration, he shifted toward abstraction, exploring mood and emotion through dynamic brushwork, nuanced color, and typographic forms that hint at language while remaining open to interpretation. His evolving practice continues to push the boundaries of abstraction, inviting viewers to discover their own meaning within each piece.

The exhibit runs from May August 9 to September 18, 2026.
Gallery hours: Thursday through Saturday, 12 to 4 PM and by appointment.

Make/Shift
Opening Reception: Sunday, August 9, 1 to 3 PM

The Crown Gallery at Metro Arts Studios is proud to present Make/Shift, a national juried exhibit asks artists to explore the space where material, process, and intention converge. Artists are invited to submit work grounded in techniques and materials traditionally associated with functional craft—ceramics, fiber, glass, wood, basketry, and other hand-based practices—reimagined through a fine art lens. This exhibition considers what happens when utility gives way to concept and transformation. Artwork is made using the techniques or the materials traditionally associated with craft. Make/Shift is juried by Rhonda Brown and Tom Grotta, founders of browngrotta arts, which champions sculptural and mixed-media works with an emphasis on concept masterfully supported by technique.

Participating artists: Becca Barolli, Stacy Bogdonoff, Canyon Bowden, Anna Brady, Laurie Carlson Steger & Norma Smayda, Graham Cassano, Jill Herlands, D**g Kyu Kim, KD Meyers, Melissa Newman, George Radwan, Julie Reuben, Kelly Riek, Paulette Rosen, Debbie Smith, and Rebecca Smith

The exhibit runs from August 9 to September 18, 2026.
Artist Talk: Saturday, August 22, 1 PM

ARTIST OPPORTUNITY.

Enter the latest juried exhibit at Crown Gallery at Metro Art Studios. UNPRECEDENTED, art on the edge of change, asks artists to respond to moments that break the pattern—events, ideas, or visions that feel singular, disruptive, or impossible to ignore. The exhibition invites work that captures transformation, rupture, and the unknown, whether personal or collective. Through diverse media and perspectives, Unprecedented explores what emerges when history swerves, rules dissolve, and something entirely new takes shape. The exhibit will run from May 31 to July 18, 2026, and is open to nearly all media.

Juror:
MARGARITA KARASOULAS, PhD, is the Curator of Art at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT. She specializes in 19th and early 20th century American art, focusing on American modernism and issues of race and representation. Karasoulas’ dissertation, titled Mapping Immigrant New York: Race and Place in Ashcan Visual Culture, explored the racial significance of the art of the Ashcan School in the context of period debates about immigration. Formerly Assistant Curator of American Art and Interim Department Head of American Art at the Brooklyn Museum, she led the curation of major exhibitions for the Bruce Museum’s expansion.

DEADLINE: Monday, May 4

🌎Happy Earth Day 🌎

Let’s face it, Mother Nature is the OG artist, and we’re all just trying to stay within her lines. Today we’re celebrating the big, beautiful, rotating studio we all share.

At Metro, we’re constantly inspired by how our artists interpret the world around us—from the vastness of the stars to the ground beneath our feet. Today is a perfect reminder of why we create: to honor, protect, and find beauty in the planet we share.

This stellar view of our home turf was created by artist It’s a nice reminder that we’re all just hitchhiking on a beautiful, rotating art project, so we should do our best to keep the peace and keep it clean ✌️🌎

Happy World Art Day! At Metro Art Studios, we believe that life is too short for beige walls and boring perspectives. Art is the ultimate superpower—it’s the only time "making a scene" is actually encouraged and "getting messy" is considered a career move.

Today is about celebrating the spark that makes us human. Art isn't just about the finished piece hanging in a gallery; it’s about the chaotic, beautiful process of turning a "what if" into a "look at this."

Shoutout to the creators who turn their internal monologues into external masterpieces and the supporters who keep the local scene thriving.

Keep it weird and keep it colorful ✌️
