In between thinking hard about WTF I can constructively do with the feeling I am experiencing watching the horrors unfold around us in our country right now, I am trying to find sparks of joy where I can. Here are a few of my favorite things that are grounding me at the moment: 's The Book of Alchemy, Roman Lavender candle, peppermint tea, traveler's notebook, and a few lovely pens, including my dip pen, my lumos, and my fountain pen. May we all find ways to fill our cups so our resistance can remain active, compassionate, human, and sustaining.

Artist statement: For this piece, I chose the white poppy as my subject, a flower long associated with peace, remembrance, and the quiet strength required to choose nonviolence. Their delicate forms became a way to explore what it means to be a peacemaker in a world of constant motion and tension.

The vibrant complementary colors reflect the beauty that emerges when opposites learn to coexist. Peace is not the absence of conflict but the harmonizing of difference, a willingness to stand in contrast without losing connection. By setting warm oranges against cool blues, I wanted to embody that dynamic balance, the creative tension that makes true harmony possible.

The rhythmic, flowing lines serve as a visual metaphor for divine movement. They suggest that when we cooperate, listen, and soften toward one another, we tap into something larger than ourselves, a sacred current of compassion and interconnectedness. Peace, in this sense, is not static; it is alive, active, and continually unfolding.

In this painting, the flowers become both symbol and reminder that peacemaking is an art of courage, contrast, and sacred flow.
