This might not look like a promising update, but it definitely is! The drying and demolition are nearly all complete, with hazardous materials being removed and the damaged areas stripped down to the studs and dried out. As shocking as it looks, this is where we start putting all the pieces back together! It’s surreal to see this place we’ve spent nearly every day for the last 13 years so bare and exposed, but knowing our beloved cinema survived yet another catastrophe is encouragement enough. From here, we start building it back up. Onwards and upwards!

We are still planning on doing a fundraiser with The Heart of Brevard for the repairs that won’t be covered by insurance, so keep an eye out for that soon!

By popular demand, you’ll now be able to grab a popcorn and drink without missing any of the movie! It might take a little getting used to, but we think our customers are going enjoy the new placement of our concession stand.

We wanted to give everyone an update on the theater, we know everyone has a million questions and we want to keep the community updated on progress. The leak dripped down in the ceiling over the men’s bathroom, stairwell, lobby/concession stand and eventually ran down the carpet aisle into the auditorium where it dripped into the crawl space below the building. We were able to get First Restoration out and they immediately set up fans and dehumidifiers that have been running around the clock for over a week, and they’ve made great progress on drying everything out. By an incredible blessing, our brand new laser projector, sound equipment, popcorn machine, soda fountain and fridge, and most of our electronics were completely saved from the flooding! There will be lots of repairs on the path ahead, and we still don’t know exactly how long it will take, but we’re working to reopen as fast as possible. At this point we’re waiting on the wheels of insurance and for everything to be dried out before any demolition and repairs happen.
The unbelievable amount of support we have felt from this community over the last week is incredibly inspiring, to know how many people care for this place that all of us feel such a special affinity for is incredible. We’ve had a lot of requests for donations, and right now we don’t know the full extent of what insurance will take care of and what else will need to be updated before we can reopen. We would never ask for money without a very good reason, but it’s possible we may set up fundraiser once expenses become a little clearer.
This community is a wonderful place to be, and feeling the outpouring of support for this very special piece of our town has been a shining light in an otherwise very stressful time. Eli and I appreciate the support more than you know, The Co-Ed is a special place to us and so many people across generations and we’re determined to keep it alive. ❤️

Hello Brevard, some unfortunate news that we did not want to have to share in these already difficult times. Due to a burst pipe in the ceiling of the theater causing significant damage, we will be closed for the foreseeable future while we assess the damage and plan a course forward. We apologize for any inconvenience, and hope to share any updates soon. We are unbelievably grateful to the couple who saw it walking by and told the Fire Department, things could have gotten way worse.

We were able to make it safely into town, so we will be open for our 1:00 and 4:00 o’clock shows of Send Help today! We’ll be closed for the 7:00 show so we can make it home safely.
