There are many mischief-makers in Twelfth Night… but Maria just might take the cake. 😏

Meet Candice Burchill, who is bringing Olivia’s clever, witty, and delightfully scheming companion to life this summer!

Candice was inspired to get involved after hearing her students rave about their experiences with Bard in Brevard. Audiences across Western North Carolina may already recognize her from her many performances and directing projects throughout the region. Some of her favorite past roles include Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Val Clark in A Chorus Line, and Shelby in Steel Magnolias.

When asked what she’s most excited about in this production, Candice shared:

💬 “Performing instead of directing Shakespeare, AND working alongside our younger counterparts.”

And in a fact that feels surprisingly fitting for someone playing a chaos-loving Shakespearean trickster…

🦎 Candice loves building bioactive vivariums for reptiles and amphibians and currently has 6 lizards and 4 frogs!

Come see Candice and the rest of the cast bring Twelfth Night to life June 19–28, 7:30pm at Dunham Hall on the Brevard College Campus.

We’re thrilled to celebrate our Artistic Director receiving a grant from Arts AVL!

The North Carolina Arts Council Artist Support Grant is a regional program that supports individual artists at all stages of their careers, funding professional and artistic development, new work creation, business growth, and opportunities to reach new audiences across disciplines including performing arts, visual arts, literary arts, and more.

Dr. Veronica Leone Matthews, a theater artist, educator, and nonprofit founder, was awarded in the Performing Arts category. Her work centers on Shakespeare, place-based performance, and community partnerships that expand access to the arts.

With this grant, she is developing a site-specific production of Twelfth Night featuring local historical figures Beulah Zachary and Robroy Farquhar, founders of Brevard Little Theatre, a project that connects her own ancestry, local history, and community.

We can’t wait to see this vision come to life, June 19-28 on the Dunham Hall Porch on the Brevard College campus.

Join us in congratulating Dr. V on this well-deserved achievement!

Improv Round Two… and we’re just getting started!

Our second improv workshop was an absolute blast. Full of big laughs, bold choices, and even more “yes, and!” moments. It’s amazing what happens when a group of people shows up ready to play, take risks, and support each other.

We had everything from driving a cab as three aliens in a trench coat pretending to be human, to an unexpected (and unforgettable) kitten birth scene… and even a very shy politician bravely stepping forward to declare, “Ask not what your country can do for you…” before immediately exiting the room. 😂

Missed this one? Don’t worry, we’ve got one on the books for June, and stay tuned for details... we're definitely keeping the improv going!

✨ Keep an eye on Bard in Brevard for upcoming workshop dates, you won’t want to miss the next round.

There’s nothing quite like a group of people saying “yes, and…” together 💛

If you missed it, don’t worry…this won’t be the last! We’re already dreaming up the next one.
