🩸 CAST SPOTLIGHT: CHARLES BURCHILL AS MACBETH 🩸

Meet Charles Burchill, returning to the Bard in Brevard stage as the titular character in our punk-rock reimagining of Macbeth!

🎭 What is your theatre background?
I have been involved in theatre both onstage and behind the scenes since elementary school, continuing through middle school, high school, college, and adulthood. My notable roles include the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, Curly in Oklahoma!, the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland, a singing and dancing Knight in Spamalot, Carl in Ghost the Musical, and most recently, Feste/Sebastian in Bard in Brevard’s Twelfth Night.

He has also taught choir and technical theatre at Brevard High School for the past eight years!

🩸 What are you most looking forward to about this production?
“I look forward to the acting challenge of such a deep and thoughtful villain, and of showing what is supposed to be a good man’s descent into evil and madness.”

🔥 What is an interesting fact about you?
Charles can juggle FLAMING TORCHES. 🔥🔥

🩸WEEKEND #2 LOCATION.

For Weekend #2 of Macbeth, Bard in Brevard is heading back to the The Lumberyard Brevard| Wedding & Events Venue , the place where we brought Romeo and Juliet to life last fall.

There’s something pretty special about returning to a space where we’ve already made so many memories. We’re bringing a whole new story, a whole new cast, and a lot more murder, but it still feels a little like coming home.

This weekend, the cast of Bard in Brevard’s Macbeth gathered around the table for the first read-through. Ambition got bloody.

We’re officially kicking off rehearsals for our darkest, wildest production yet. We cannot wait to bring this twisted tale of power, prophecy, and betrayal to the stage.

Cast Spotlight: Naila Saltzman as Viola & Cesario 

At the heart of Twelfth Night is Viola, one of Shakespeare’s most beloved heroines. After a shipwreck separates her from her twin brother, she disguises herself as a young man named Cesario, setting off a whirlwind of mistaken identities, unexpected romance, and comic confusion.

Welcome back Naila Saltzman, who brings Viola and Cesario to life in our youth cast!

What is your theater background?
💬 “This will be my second Bard in Brevard production, following my role as Benvolio, Romeo’s friend, in the fall play Romeo and Juliet.”

Naila’s theater journey began as a freshman in Flat Rock Playhouse’s world premiere of Slowpoke! The True Story of a Tortoise and Hare. Since then, she has participated in classes and camps at Flat Rock Playhouse, played Rafiki in The Lion King, and most recently appeared in Brevard High School’s production of Into the Woods.

What has been your favorite part of theater?
💬 “I have enjoyed getting to expand my Shakespeare knowledge and understanding, while meeting new people and friends.”

What are you most looking forward to about Twelfth Night?
💬 “I am so excited to be playing a lead in this production of Twelfth Night! Viola disguises herself as a man, and I have had fun incorporating different qualities into my character throughout the play.”

What is an interesting fact about you?
💬 “I play softball, and I’ve lived most of my life in California.”

What is your theater background?
💬 “I started doing theater in high school and I thought it was an absolute blast.”

What are you most looking forward to about Twelfth Night?
💬 “The thing I’m most looking forward to about Twelfth Night is getting to see some of my friends and doing the fight scenes.”

What is an interesting fact about you?
💬 “A little-known fact about ol’ Samuel K. White is that he can, rather like Superman, shoot lasers out of his eyes.”

We have been asked by the directors to clarify that no actual lasers will be used during the performance. 😄
