Launched in 2022, the White Squirrel Artisans Market (WSAM) was created to shine a spotlight on hyperlocal makers, musicians, and small businesses—all while raising funds for local nonprofit organizations. In 2023, the event found its new home at the Porter C

enter at Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina. Founded and organized by Kyzandrha Zárate and proudly presented by Billy McCoy of REMAX Land of the Waterfalls, WSAM is more than just a market—it’s a movement. “My mission is to create an affordable, safe space for local artisans to showcase and sell their work,” says Zárate. “Through these events, we are building bridges of opportunity between artisans and their community.”

The market has become a vibrant space where residents and visitors alike can support local creativity and give back to meaningful causes. Since its inception, WSAM has raised approximately $9,000 for local nonprofits. Many artisans who got their start at the market have since grown into staple vendors in businesses throughout Brevard. With every event, WSAM continues to foster a stronger, more connected, and creatively enriched community.

WSAM Summer Festival Vendor Spotlight 😍

Meet Jalagood Smoked Hot Sauce✨

Jeff spent more than three decades perfecting flavor in professional kitchens. When a friend gifted him a bag of fresh jalapeños, he turned inspiration into innovation by smoking the peppers and creating Jalagood Smoked Hot Sauce.

The response was so good that Jeff expanded the lineup with Habagood, a smoked pineapple-habanero sauce, and Nanagood, made with smoked banana peppers. Today, his handcrafted sauces combine culinary expertise, real ingredients, and a signature smoky twist that keeps customers coming back for more.

WSAM Summer Festival Vendor Spotlight 😍

Meet Eleanor Palmer Art✨

Born and raised in Mills River, North Carolina, Eleanor Palmer remembers her childhood as an evolving mosaic of art and nature. From an early age she recognized a uniquely deep magic rooted within the mountains of Western North Carolina. Intuitively connected to textures, colors, and movements from the natural world, Palmer began collecting a creative consciousness. Today, she creates abstract paintings using bold, intuitive brushstrokes.

As a graduate of Appalachian State University with a BFA in Studio Art she embraced opportunities to study abroad in Spain visiting historical ceramic studios and studying local artists and interning at The Flat Rock Playhouse, the State Theatre of North Carolina where she worked as a scenic set painter and taught Expressive Arts in the Youth Education programs. Palmer begins her 5th year as an early childhood educator where she incorporates art and nature throughout her curriculum. These experiences have helped shape her love of color and composition and continue to influence her process as an abstract painter today.

Palmer’s artwork has been exhibited at several juried exhibitions throughout Western NC and SC over the past 3 years. Currently her work is exhibited at the Art Place Gallery in Hendersonville, NC and the Studio 116 Exhibit in East Flat Rock, NC. She participates in Open Studio Tours in Henderson County and several Artisan Markets in western North Carolina. Palmer is a represented artist at the 906 Fine Art Gallery in West Greenville, SC.

Meet Sacred Space Ceramics ✨

Dyana’s work begins in the quiet, grounding rhythm of her hands in clay. The studio is her sacred space — a place where she can follow her creative impulses, settle into a meditative state, and regulate her nervous system through touch and presence. She is especially drawn to darker clay bodies for their earthy, romantic depth, and to satin‑matte glazes that enhance the raw, rustic character of the material.

Each piece is created with the hope that it will enter others’ sacred spaces, becoming part of quiet rituals, daily rhythms, or personal moments of meaning. Whether it holds a flame, a plant, or a morning intention, Dyana’s work is meant to serve as a gentle reminder to slow down, tune in, and reconnect — with self, with space, and with the present moment.

Meet Sage & Spirit Designs ✨

Kris Hornsby is the one woman show behind Sage and Spirit Designs. She first became interested in jewelry design while a student at the Fashion institute of design in NYC. Then life happened, school, raising a family, working. In 2018, she rediscovered her creative side and a passion for jewelry design and metalsmithing.

Kris believes jewelry should not only be beautiful but meaningful. She gets her inspiration from nature, the divine feminine and exploring new ideas and techniques.

WSAM Summer Festival Vendor Spotlight 😍

Meet Barbey Botanicals 🌿

Marci grew up surrounded by art. Her Dad was an artist and for most of her childhood he worked in his studio on the second floor of their home. It wasn’t until shortly before retirement that Marci became interested in creating art herself, specifically botanical art.

Once retired, she moved to Western North Carolina and continued her art studies with a two-year, on-line course through the New York Botanical Garden. She has also taken botanical drawing classes at the North Carolina Arboretum and the John C. Campbell Folk School.

All of her drawings are done with colored pencil and watercolor pencil. Many of her originals are in private collections around the country and her cards are sold in stores throughout Western North Carolina.✨
