A few pics from a fantastic year at ARTful U 2024 to 2025! We had so much fun creating owl collages; drawing self-portraits and pies; sculpting clay dogs; and painting cows, cats, and landscapes at Radnor Lake! I had no idea back in 2001, that when I said yes to teaching a 5th grade art class at our homeschool co-op, I would continue sharing my passion for art with kids for next 24 years! I am so grateful the Lord has led me down this path and I am so thankful for all of the amazing kids and moms that I have met, and to all the churches and co-ops I have taught at over the years!
But...to everything there is a season... and last spring I realized it was time to step back from teaching the weekly art classes. I am looking forward to spending time with my retired husband, our grandkids, unfinished projects at home, and exploring my own creative growth and new ways to share my passion for nature, art and the gospel with others!
Thankfully, I was so happy when River Dendy (River Dendy Design) said YES...she would love the opportunity to teach art! I had River in my high school art classes years ago and she back in Nashville after college and is a kind and talented artist! Sign-up for her July Art Camp and Fall Art Classes now before they fill up at Create Hope Studios in Brentwood!
I am grateful that I will be able to continue to teach some occasional Pop-Up Art workshops beginning in September - for kids, teens and adults. ARTful U had our second art show of the year and I am working out details for additional classes in 24/25. All three elementary (AU 1) classes are full; however, some spots are still open for ages 11 to 15 (AU 2). I will add a homeschool class and an after-school class for elementary if there is enough interest!

Last week the AU 2 classes met at Radnor Lake State Park for a fall watercolor plein air lesson (just a few miles from Create Hope Studios in Brentwood). Being in God's incredible creation and sharing the experience of observing nature and the creative process with these amazing young artists was a reminder of what is good, beautiful and true! www.vanmaartharts.com

We have an art show in the Fall and in the Spring every year. I tell the students there are no ribbons awarded ... it is a gallery of art for display and not a competition. However, it is always a joy to learn that they often do receive ribbons and even cash awards for their creative efforts at the county fair!
