I love this piece because it feels like it holds all my memories of forest wandering. Walking amongst the towering monuments and hearing the stillness whispering. An occasional bird singing or squirrel chattering….
The layered texture of the forest embodies an entire life, beginning to end.

My practice consists of periods of painting without stopping, followed by looking. I allow my hands to direct the marks and strokes spontaneously. This means that sometimes when I take time to look I’m surprised. Maybe it’s not what I expected, or even what I am hoping for? Maybe I’m thrilled with what is on the canvas? Either way, this process feels authentic, and prevents me from overthinking.
Sometimes there is more time spent looking than actually painting! 👀🤔
