Oh MER gosh I cannot believe it! I wished upon a starfish but never in my wildest dream did I think I would be o-fish-ally representing the great state of Colorado!! I am ab-shell-utely shell shocked! 🐚

Congratulations to Miss Mermaid Colorado 2021 Hailey Michaux .anemone! Hailey is a pastry chef/cake decorator and the head R&D chef for a cannabis company. This artistic mermaid loves crafting for her mersona, transforming “trash” into treasure when creating mixed media paintings and costumes, playing Roller Derby, and dogs are her life! She has also taught Trapeze at Brown University, and is PADI Advanced Open Water certified with over 50 logged dives in 10 different countries! Ever since she started swimming at age 2 she has been drawn to the magic of mermaids, and once she embraced being a mermaid she felt her confidence rise!
Hailey’s platform focuses on reef conservation, overfishing, reducing plastics and finding better solutions on waste management to prevent them from winding up in our oceans and waterways. She says that the ocean is the world’s life-blood, and she became a mermaid performer to inspire little guppies to make changes to protect it! She has worked withs 5 Gyres, Mermaid Straw (with whom she is currently coordinating a waterway cleanup on the Platte River with), and has made dreams come true while being a mermaid for Make-A-Wish foundation. Hailey plans to use her title to teach others about the consequences of our actions and what we can do now to save our oceans and waterways. She wants to stress the important role that reefs play in our ecosystem. She plans to host more meetups and clean ups at many of her state & recreational parks. She supports Ocean Rescue Alliance .
Hailey also gives a shout out to one of our Miss Mermaid USA queens for the encouragement and guidance she provided when answering questions about her experience as Miss Mermaid USA!
