🦞 Celebrating Crawfish, Culture and Community!
The Rotary Club of Crowley recently welcomed Mark Bernard, president of the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival Association, who shared the history and impact of one of Louisiana’s most recognized festivals.
Mark explained how the festival grew from Breaux Bridge’s 1959 centennial celebration into an event that now attracts tens of thousands of visitors from across the United States and around the world. Throughout that growth, its mission has remained focused on preserving and promoting the food, music and traditions that make South Louisiana so special.

Rotarians learned about the tremendous amount of volunteer work required to produce the festival, from coordinating security and entertainment to managing vendors, contests and visiting royalty. Mark also discussed the festival’s unique approach to food vendors, which limits competing menu items and allows each vendor to showcase its own signature dishes.
He emphasized the important economic impact festivals have on their communities and the value of organizations such as the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals, where volunteers from across the state exchange ideas, build friendships and help one another succeed.

We congratulate Mark on his recent induction into the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals Hall of Fame and thank him for sharing his experience, humor and passion for Louisiana culture with our club!

The next Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival will be held April 30–May 2, 2027, at Parc Hardy.
