👉 Brea Gallery is committed to continuing its tradition of presenting a contemporary survey of art in California, highlighting emerging art movements throughout the state. This open call exhibition has expanded significantly over the years, establishing a foundation for enduring relationships between artists and their communities, and serving as a key resource for identifying talent for our other exhibitions. MICA strives to highlight artists in all stages of their careers and offers them a chance to compete for a number of cash prizes, as well as the coveted solo show opportunity.

🏆 Solo Show Submission: Submit 5-10 pieces with an Artist Statement for consideration of a Solo Show running concurrent to 𝘔𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘢

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑭𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒔 is officially on view 🎃 Now haunting our walls until December 13, 2026

👉 Horror has been part of American culture since the country’s earliest years. Stories like Washington Irving’s "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, and the tales of Edgar Allan Poe introduced generations to the folktales, the supernatural, and the consequences of paranoia and fear of the unknown. 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑭𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒔 brings these stories into the present through the work of contemporary artists, reimagining familiar characters and scenes, and exploring themes of fear, identity, isolation, or persecution. Together, these works show how the stories and fears of early America continue to influence horror and still speak to us today.

Looking to gain some insight into the themes of our upcoming exhibition 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑭𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒔? Then we beckon you for an evening in our hallowed halls...

👉 Where do our fears come from? Are they simple figments of our nightmarish imaginations, or has society influenced and shaped who and what we should fear throughout history? Professor Adam Golub Ph.D joins us for an evening of haunting revelations, examining how culture and horror are intrinsically tied. With our fall exhibition, 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄𝘀, as his backdrop, Professor Golub will reveal how monsters are utilized in historical context as a reflection of fears and anxieties surrounding nature, science, gender, race, community, and the body. Take a deeper dive into the themes of the exhibition, and a closer examination of the Salem Witch Trials, the works of Edgar Allan Poe, and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."
