Sewed up a quick self-drafted skirt from the handloom cotton ikat we have here at the shop. Elastic waist and pockets mean I need 4 more and will be living in them all summer.

Computer programming, but make it analog!

Each thread on a loom is assigned to a harness and held in place by these metal heddles. By controlling which threads are up or down and in what order, you determine the woven pattern of the fabric.

It’s binary: each thread can be up or down. Combining patterns of up and down determines what the fabric looks like.

This loom has 8 harnesses; this project has 540 threads. That’s a lot of potential options…..

The rights of LGBTQIA folks (especially transgender folks) are under attack right now in this country, so Pride feels especially important. It's not just about the rainbows and parades - it's about gaining and keeping the freedom to move through the world as we are.

It's hard to explain how this apron works without a video - and I haven't finished the class sample yet. But it's awesome! The apron forms a large pocket that has a drawstring, so you can collect produce in your garden without it dropping out.

If you're comfortable on a sewing machine (you've completed a couple of projects) and want to learn how to gather fabric under a waistband and also how to make buttonholes, then this class is for you!

I'll finish that sample and get a video as soon as I can, promise!

Gallery Walk is coming right up, and we are SO excited that Ruth Shafer will be hanging pieces from her Comforters series here at the shop.

We didn't get our act together early enough to get this one in the Gallery Walk program, so please pass the word! June 5, 5-8 PM. Rumor has it there may be snacks.

What are you doing on June 20th from 12-4? Because we have two spots left in the zipper pouch class and it's a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. This is a great class for people who have a good grasp on sewing basics but want to learn more about how to install zippers. It’s $60, and we will very likely have time to make more than one pouch.

This is what taking a class with us looks like - joy and fun are high on the priority list.

These adventurers took the cross-back apron class a few weekends ago, and we all had a blast. And look at those aprons!
