Week 2 of the Nu Mu festival is here! We have multiple performances and a morning meditative listening session lined up from August 13th–16th at 118 Elliot. Please take a look at the programs taking place this weekend:
Thursday, August 13th
7pm-8pm: Students from Long Island University and Brattleboro’s Anarchoharmonia to play an improvised composition under the conduction of Jeff Lederer.
Friday, August 14th
7:00 pm (45 min) – “Post-Modern 1”: New music ensemble from Long Island University performs experimental works by living composers including Stephan LaRosa, Matt Wilson, and Kali Malone. Performers: Stuart Heim/Aaron Abrams (electronics), Sofia Lanese(guitar), Benedetto Zangri(bass), Justin Krauss (drums), Ray Schwan (bass) Jeff Lederer (bass clarinet, director)
8:00 pm: Julian Gerstin’s “Dr Julian’s Yes Yes”
Brattleboro’s own Julian Gerstin presents the premiere of a new ensemble that plays original music steeped in jazz and sparkling with rhythms and instruments from the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and the Arabic world.
Paul Austerlitz and Jeff Lederer (multiple woodwinds), Don Anderson(trumpet), Andrew Wilcox (piano), Wes Brown (bass), Ben James (drums), Julian Gerstin (percussion).
9:30 pm: NU MU Afterparty at Midnight’s, 2 High Street, Brattleboro, VT, with a performance by student emo-gaze band “Cannon Fodder”.
Saturday, August 15th
A very special performance by The Turbulence Orchestra, a large format improvisational ensemble that brings many musicians together who collaborate both in small ensembles (the sub units) and as an improvisational orchestra under the conduction of Dave Peck aka Sparkles the Evil Clown. There will be two performances with a break for refreshments:
6 pm: The sub units play a series of short improvisations
8 pm: The full ensemble will perform “Explosive Cyclogenesis” an improvised pastoral symphony under the conduction of Dave Peck, AKA Sparkles, The Evil Clown.
Sunday, August 16th
A morning of music conducive to personal meditation practices and quiet activities including yoga, movement, reading, writing, drawing, contemplation.
