Folk School, Day 1: I made a tool! Oof, was it a learning curve, but by the end of the day, I made a functional spring fuller. Is it pretty? No. Does it work? Yes. Shout out to my instructor, for his patience with me.

18th century pipe box! Each home and tavern in the 18th century had one of these hanging, usually close to the door.
I think this is the project that takes me from "making s**t out of wood" to "woodworker". Super proud of this.

I based this Kevin Riley 's pipe box video on YouTube. When he found out I was making this, he even gave me a few pipes to go in it. THANKS KEVIN!
I put it on the shelf with other projects that have inspired me... The first box Amy made completely by hand, small planters by Mike , and tankards that I ( Dan Bramos ) made. Filled the to***co drawer with cedar shavings since we don't smoke. Made from leftover poplar and cedar from Amy's project. Sealed with Tung Oil.

We've added a new tool (toy? 😬) to the Foil and Feather maker complex! An 80 watt laser engraver and cutter. Any suggestions on what we should make on it?
*HUGE shout out to Todd, Steve, and Ryan for picking it up and moving it into the basement*

THROWBACK BUILD! One of my first "maker" projects over 14 years ago.
"In an effort to fight the never ending battle of "Is that where your LEGO's go?" I cobbled together a LEGO play and storage table for the Dude. All the wood was left over from other projects (no cost incurred), the tubs were $10/10 (the others will hold additional LEGO projects in the closet and can be switched out), four base plates at $5 each, and the hobby bin was $16. Leftover paint and glue did the rest. Less than $50 and a little elbow grease and now I may be able to walk to the fridge in the middle of the night."
The table is long gone, and the kid in the picture is a grown man (I'm proud of you, Dude!), but it's a great memory.

Railroad spike knife class at Black Horse Forge was a blast and I learned a lot. I've never drawn out that much metal to forge a blade, and I picked up some excellent grinder and knife design skills that I'll be able to translate to my home forge. If you're a veteran or first responder, give them a follow and take a class.

A few small woodworking projects as presents this year...
1. Spalted oak and juniper cutting board
2. Gaming dice made from the wood of both the 1978 and 2022 Maryland Doves
3. Black walnut (harvested from Just Holdin' Farm ) rough shaped pencil holder
4. Book holder made from Philippine mahogany (I think).
5. Yule log to keep the Solstice light during the winter made from the same tree and method as the pencil holder

It's been a while since I've done any tinsmithing, so just to get back in the groove of bending metal, I designed and made a simple incense holder leaf.
