Set in North Carolina in 1938, Smoke on the Mountain follows the Sanders Family Singers as they perform at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church's Saturday Night Gospel Sing! Words cannot express how much we are going to miss Rachael Shepherd our dear and precious June. She has brought so much life and light to the character. She is hysterically funny and has perfect comedic timing. Her facial expressions are always a delight to watch. Rachael has been with the cast for 5 years and during her time with us we have won Best Comedy Show of the Year, Best Morning Show of the Year and she received Best Comedian of the Year for her incredible performance as June Sanders. She is a joy and a pleasure to work with on and off stage. Rachael has made deep and lasting connections with the cast and our wonderful patrons. We all love and adore her very much. Tomorrow will be her final performance with Smoke on the Mountain. Please join us in wishing Miss Rachael the very best in her next chapter of life. Reminder AUDITION NOTICE!!!!
Smoke on the Mountain Auditions for the lead Female Comedian June Sanders. Auditions will be held on August 9th at 1pm in The Little Opry Theatre inside the IMAX Entertainment Complex. Come prepared with a comedic monologue if possible. We will be doing cold readings from the script. Seeking a 20 to a Mid-30 year old that learns very quickly, has great acting chops, physical comedy skills and impeccable comedic timing. This is a Non-Singing role but does require the use of several percussion instruments so good rhythm is required. Shows are Tuesday-Saturday at 10am with a 9am Call Time. Performances are now through December 19th. Must be able to start immediately.

Do you recognize the Denise in this picture? Her name is Rachael Shepherd and she typically plays June. She hopped in as Denise last minute and did a fantastic job. She is quite the talent! If you know her you probably love and enjoy her as much as we do. Please come out to the show and see her soon because her last day with the Smoke on the Mountain Cast will be August 8th.
