WISP Pocket Plays: A Festival of New Works
Call for Playwright Submissions and Call for Directors
Are you the author of an unpublished 15-minute play or musical? We would love to collaborate with you!
WISP is thrilled to announce that we will be hosting Pocket Plays: A New Works Festival, featuring a collection of unpublished one-act plays and musicals. Join us for an exciting opportunity to showcase your work on the stage of creativity and innovation!
We will be presenting 4 Original One-Act Plays and 2 Short Musicals - all must be unpublished.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Scripts must be sent to [email protected] no later than April 12, 2024.
Works must be no longer than 15 minutes when performed.
No monologues.
Scripts must be in script format, PDF or MS Word preferred.
Works MUST BE unpublished.
Set pieces should be minimal and small in size.
Playwrights must be 16 years of age or older.
Playwrights are limited to two submissions and will not be considered to direct one of the plays.
There will be a cap of 250 total play submissions.
Playwrights will be notified of the receipt of their work. If you have not received confirmation of your submission(s) receipt after 48 hours, please contact us at [email protected].
WISP’s Reading Committee will review and choose one-act submissions.
All Playwrights will be notified of selection status no later than May 31, 2024.
CALL FOR DIRECTORS:
If you are interested in directing one of our shows, please submit your resume and indicate if you prefer to direct a straight play or a musical.
Directors must be 16 years of age or older.
PLAYWRIGHT/DIRECTOR MEET & GREET:
A meet-and-greet for directors and playwrights will be scheduled via video conference for the afternoon of June 2, 2024 (exact time TBD).
Each author will be able to speak about their play/musical for a few minutes.
Copies of the plays/musicals will be made available electronically for Directors to read through after the meeting.
Directors will email their top three play choices to WISP before June 9, 2024.
The Producer will assign the plays to the Directors accordingly.
Assigned Directors and authors will have a chance to chat and exchange info prior to auditions.
AUDITIONS FOR ACTORS:
· Open auditions will be held on June 22 (11am-2pm) and June 23 (1pm-4pm).
· Playwrights may attend if they wish.
· Playwrights and Directors may not audition for their own shows/works.
· Sides or monologues will be made available at the time of auditions.
· No pre-recorded video auditions will be accepted at this time.
REHEARSALS:
· WISP will provide one copy of the script to each actor and director in the one-act/musical assigned.
· Tech Rehearsal will be held July 23 & 24, with Dress Rehearsal on July 25, both at 6:30pm
· Playwrights, directors, and cast will provide their own props and costumes.
· Set pieces will be kept to a minimum.
· Set pieces must be relatively small in size – pieces that can be moved by 1 or 2 people at the most.
· There will be no special lighting for individual one-acts/musicals

May 31 - Playwrights & Directors will be notified if they have been selected
June 2 - Playwright/Director Meet and Greet
June 22 (11am-2pm) and June 23 (1pm-4pm) - Actor Auditions
July 23 & 24 - Tech Rehearsal (6:30pm)
July 25 - Dress Rehearsal (6:30pm)
July 26 & 27 - Performances (7:30pm)
