Current Remote Resident Emily Loughlin Emily Loughlin has been balancing two upcoming institutional exhibitions, commissions, and new bodies of work. She has been using her time in the ISPC remote residency to find balance and navigate growth through the residency community.

Verdell Walker Verdell Walker had plenty to update us with. She shared:

* Getting great feedback on my novella and working to complete it by the fall. Has been helpful to hear the thoughts of those who aren’t normal fantasy readers!

Julianna Dail Julianna Dail shares in-progress detail photos of a new paper embroidery entitled ‘…cover ups’ from the ‘All the ways you tried’ series.

Made with embroidery thread, invisible thread, and acrylic painted security envelopes. The finished piece will be just over 4 feet by 3 feet.

“During my time with In Situ Polyculture, I have improved my understanding of plant based photographic developers and the degradation of the chemistry using the Fenton method.

These images were shot at the The Sustainable Darkroom summer school at Forgan Arts Centre processed in home grown lemonbalm.”

Remote Resident Lisa Goren Lisa Goren writes:

“I have finished my first workshop (of two) at the ICA Boston. “Watercolor on the Water” is a free workshop offered by the museum outside with a beautiful view of the Boston Harbor. The first workshop was sold out (at 300!), the second is scheduled for Friday, August 21, noon-2. All supplies provided by the museum! Watercolor by the Water  - ICA Boston ICA/Boston
 
Through this summer’s heat, I continue to work on ice and images from colder places. I expect these three “nearly done” pieces will be available in my very busy fall schedule. Lots of new work to show!”

First up: Harshal Khatri Harshal Khatri

“For this residency, I have been working with soil collected from different places I have visited, along with wild grasses gathered from a nearby forest, bringing these materials into a large-scale painting. The process of collecting has become an important part of the work, as encounters in the field often become the starting point for new ideas.”

“The work, titled When the Landscape Sees Itself, has also led me towards moving image, which opens up another dimension within the work, allowing the painting to move, transform, and become a space for exploring perception, movement, and shifting perspectives. Through animation, I explore the material continuity between animate and inanimate life, and the blurred boundaries between an organism and its environment. I am interested in this in-between space where these boundaries become less fixed.”
