🌊 Apparently We Surf in Brandon Now

We actually covered this in our sister publication, The Brandon Buzz, back when the park first opened. But you know us. We like to play it cool. So we waited a little while before telling Southshore that you can apparently drive to Brandon and catch an actual wave.

EPIC Surf at Heroes Paradise has brought deep-water stationary surfing to Brandon, allowing people to surf without driving to the coast, checking the tides, or pretending they know what offshore winds mean. And this isn't one of those little sheet-of-water surf simulators where you immediately get launched backward in front of 47 strangers.

EPIC Surf creates a 46-foot-wide deep-water wave that can be adjusted between three and five feet. Because the water is deeper, riders can use actual surfboards with fins and perform turns and maneuvers much closer to what you'd experience surfing a real wave.

The wave can be adjusted based on experience, so beginners aren't immediately fed to Poseidon. There are retractable training bars to help first-timers get their balance, and visitors can choose between surfing and boogie boarding. More experienced surfers can crank things up and use the wave to practice without waiting around for Mother Nature to cooperate.

Sessions run for an hour with riders rotating through the wave, and the attraction is open to a wide range of ages and abilities. Which means we have officially reached the point where someone can leave Riverview, drive 20 minutes toward Brandon and return saying: “Yeah, waves were pretty good today.”

Florida is getting weird. We're here for it. So if any of you head over to Heroes Paradise and manage to hang ten in Brandon, we want to hear about it. Send us the pictures. Send us the video. Tell us how gnarly it was. And if you stood up for approximately 1.7 seconds before getting absolutely rag-dolled by a machine-generated wave in Hillsborough County, we especially want that video.

Those are the stories that bring a community together. 🤙🤣
