2026 continues to be a reset year. This batch of porcelain work was the focus of my late spring session in the studio. Since then I’ve been focusing on some housing projects and some fall and winter planning. This will likely be one of the larger selections of my porcelain work that hit the online space this year. I changed a few things with my glazing for this round and found a few subtle changes that I appreciate in the work. More info in my bio about this show.

Home once again from the fair tale land that is Adamah Art Studios where I get to spend a week with a group of fellow clay travelers. When I pull out of my driveway on central MN I can just hear the crunch of the gravel the tires of my car make when I make that final right turn into the driveway of the Adamah Art Studios. This place is a real gem folks. The faculties are top notch and the setting is beautiful. Those things are the first things you’ll notice as your tires crunch down that driveway. But the real magic is the people that Adamah brings together. I can’t wait to return, and I just got home.

Another piece from the spring firing of the Rocinante. I love how much this piece feels like a stone artifact that may have been unearthed from some rubble from a crumbling building.

Break. Pause. Halt. Shift. Restart. Renew.

Bit of all of the above going on in the DeVries Pottery world. Currently chasing snow and pines in northern MN; a little spring break trip with my little crew of humans and furry companions. Bigger picture has been a full stop to my usual studio pottery life. I haven’t made a pot in my own shop for close to 5 months. I’ve been teaching 4 classes this semester as a sabbatical replacement at Central Lakes College. I planned things out so I could basically commit my full energy to teaching and the college and its arts program. I knew I was a bit burned out with my own grind as a solo studio potter, but I didn’t realize how much I needed something else to focus on to reengage my full pottery self. It has been almost like a reverse sabbatical for me. I’ve been blessed with a great batch of students and the energy in the classroom is rejuvenating. I didn’t know how much I needed this until I had it. I’ll be shifting back to my full time studio career after this semester though. As much as I like teaching, I know this was a short visit for me, I’m feeling the building excitement to return to my studio and the business of being a studio potter. Hopefully some big new things on the horizon for me as I feel that excited energy to make and build and grow. Still a bit cold and icy here, but spring is on the way. Cheers all. N-

Finally got some work into my shop! (Link in bio). There is a nice mix of wood fired and electric fired work. I’ll be shipping as things get snatched up. I’ve take on some teaching at our local community college here in Brainerd and balancing that life with that of being a studio potter has been tricky. Some things have fallen by the wayside. Looking forward to winter break.

After spending so many years layering sprayed glazes it is amazing to just add some slip to a pot, put a handle on it, liner glaze it and send it. Looking forward to more wood firing in 2026. Working on an Etsy shop update here. Look for it very soon.
