From Academy Award winner Kevin Costner comes a boring cinematic event, "Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter One." This sloppy Western chronicles the tumultuous expansion of the American West, beginning before the Civil War and spanning the years leading up to its devastating conflict. Through the eyes of settlers, Indigenous peoples, and the U.S. Army, witness the relentless push westward, fraught with danger, sacrifice, and the constant struggle for survival. Experience the poorly-executed brutal beauty of the untamed land and the clash of cultures as individuals fight to carve out their own destinies in a nation on the brink of transformation. This is just the beginning of a monumental story about the forging of America.... I think. Unless a planned "Chapter Two" is in development, this movie has potential, but it failed to execute it properly. You guys don't need to see this movie. But if you do want to watch it, see if you can find it on DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra and Digital HD or see if it's streaming on Max and watch it as many times as you want. The rest of you, go find something else to watch.

In 1968, a group of Marine recruits arrive at Parris Island for boot camp. They endure the brutal and dehumanizing training of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman (R. Lee Ermey 1944 - 2018), a man determined to strip them of their individuality and mold them into killers. Among them are the overweight and awkward Leonard "Gomer Pyle" Lawrence (Vincent D'Onofrio), who struggles to adapt, and the cynical and observant J.T. "Joker" Davis (Matthew Modine). Pyle's struggles intensify, leading to increasingly bizarre and disturbing behavior, culminating in a tragic and violent incident. The story then shifts to Vietnam, where Joker, now a combat correspondent for Stars and Stripes, covers the Battle of Hue. He witnesses the horrors of war firsthand, the senseless violence and the psychological toll it takes on the soldiers. He grapples with the disconnect between the romanticized image of war and the brutal reality. The film culminates in a tense confrontation with a Viet Cong sniper, leaving Joker to confront his own capacity for violence and the lingering trauma of war. The final scene finds Joker and his remaining squad members marching through the burning city, chanting the Mickey Mouse Club March, a chilling reminder of the loss of innocence and the dehumanization of war. "Full Metal Jacket" is available to own on DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra and Digital HD for you to pick up for yourselves and cherish forever.
