Can’t wait to finish this large piece of silver maple. The reddish heartwood is amazing, but very wet. I’ve been microwaving (see the last image)it to get it dry before I put it back on the lathe to finish turning it. The dark lines you see is CA glue placed into the small cracks that form as it dries. They will disappear when I re-turn and sand it. The color will pop when the walnut oil is applied. I have to wait till the moisture drops to 8% but as many of you know, patience is not my strong suit:).

First pieces from those black walnut logs in the previous post. These were turned green (while the wood is still wet) I’m trying to control the checking that happens as they dry and will finish when they get to 7% moisture. Love the wide band of sapwood. Thanks Sandy!
