Opening this week! “shaping the edge” brings together the work of Joe Taylor and Jonathan Marquis, two artists whose practices emerge from immersive relationships with landscape and the American West.

Through both biomorphic ceramic sculptures (Joe Taylor ) and cyanotypes created in collaboration with melting glaciers (Jonathan Marquis ), this show explores the forces that shape both human experience and the natural world. As well as the wonder & connection behind it all.

Joe and Jonathan will join us on Friday, August 26th for an Opening Reception from 5-8pm. Come cheer on summer with us! ☀️

Got plans for Earth Day? 🌱🌎

Join us and some of our favorite local businesses on Wednesday, April 22nd, from 4-7pm for a neighborhood-wide celebration. From 4:45-5:30pm be holding an art walk with our current exhibiting artist Megan Marlatt and her wearable “Capgrossos”, or papier-mache heads! Meet us at the gallery (615 E Peach Unit C), and we’ll start the walk around 5. Bring the whole family, any costumes, instruments/noise-makers, or Earth Day signs (bikes welcome). We’ll pick up litter on the way, too!

The Big Head Brigade, founded & directed by has been presented in places such as New York City, Prague, and Zurich… We’re so lucky they’re here to join us in Montana!

We’ve also collaborated with for this Earth Day walk! The children at State of Play’s Art Club have been busy forming, attaching, and painting what will soon be a totem structure inspired by Megan Marlatt’s whimsical papier-mache heads! This sculpture along with noise makers, Earth Day signs, and recycled materials wearables will be at the event for you to see for yourself!

and will have tents with recycled material offerings from 4-7p, live music and a farmer’s market from , and yummy bites from & will be offered all in the Bon Ton parking lot. Plenty more, too! Visit here to view the full scope of the event: https://www.echoarts.net/northside-earth-day

Open Now! We’re excited for this one ✨ “Myths and Mummers” with artist and friend (and Sahra’s painting professor), Megan Marlatt!

Coming to us from Virginia, she gives us her paintings and the wearable papier-mâché ‘mummers’ that in tandem carry a narrative of not only the changing climate but our ever-shifting reality of the four seasons…

She asks: “But what if one day the Earth doesn’t want to wake up?”

We will hold a reception for the artist Friday, April 17th from 5-8pm, as well as an art walk with the papier-mâché heads on Earth Day alongside our wonderful neighborhood! Stay tuned for info to come. Happy Spring!

Over six years ago, a collaborative journey began - revealing the Montana we all know and love through the work of contemporary artists, here.

We are grateful to Lone Mountain Land Co, Olson Kundig and One & Only Resorts for their open-minded attentiveness to an art program that reaches beyond what traditional hospitality pursues and dives deeper—reflecting upon place, culture and our responsibility to give more in the effort to speak to our shared humanity.

And… especially to the ARTISTS, our artist-aligned community, Big Sky Art Operations, Old Main Gallery, Justine Jane Photography, and all the galleries and dealers and writers and non profits who tirelessly and passionately promote art in our communities. This project is a testament to all of that and more.

A closer look at the Stromatolite Studies, as part of “Prima Materia”… These studies, made my grad student and artist Kevin Tracy , aim to replicate a Stromatolite — an ancient layered structure built slowly by cyanobacteria billions of years ago.

Layering locally sourced clay with ground basalt, and resting in a bed of sand inside a kiln, these replications demonstrate earth made monuments that can be found in Yellowstone and the Tetons (and are still forming today).

“Prima Materia”, an ArtScience MSU collaboration, will close on Saturday, March 21st. We will hold our final ArtScience Café this coming Monday (March 16th) from Noon-1pm. Anyone welcome, bring your lunch & any questions!
