There’s something about a nocturne that always stops us in our tracks. The simplicity of moonlight, the stillness we find at night. Lucky captured it perfectly here.

Join us September 11, from 6 to 8 PM, for a show featuring the work of William “Lucky” Davis at A. Banks Gallery. Contact us for information on pre-sales and to preview the entire show before opening night.

Save the date: Art Walk is September 11, from 6 to 8 PM, and we’re hosting a show for William “Lucky” Davis.

Davis is a fifth-generation Montanan and Bozeman native, new to the gallery. His work is inspired by his childhood on the family ranch, along with the mountains, skies, and rivers of Montana. Influenced by the Tonalism movement, his style isn’t representational; it’s a reflection of Mother Nature’s moods and emotions.

Contact us for information on pre-sales and to preview the entire show before opening night.

This piece from Will Spear stops us every time we walk by it.

Spear’s work isn’t concerned with breathtaking vistas or conventional beauty; it’s about the intimate relationship one has with a place. His mantra: anything can be painted well technically, but if it doesn’t carry emotion, it isn’t finished. After majoring in illustration at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, he evolved toward impressionistic realism, and found the perfect subject in Montana’s Big Sky country.

“As a contemporary landscape painter, my work is a conscious play of mood, light, and color,” says artist Shanna Kunz. Raised as a naturalist in the diverse landscapes of western America, she treats each location as an encounter, one that gives her a sense of connection and order. Her paintings search for the natural threads that tie the landscape together, using layers of light and brushwork to translate an honest emotional connection to the land.

Peter Campbell is known as an unbelievable landscape painter, and for good reason, but he also creates western pieces that stop us in our tracks. This one is a favorite of ours.

Campbell studied photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design before turning to painting in 1995, carrying his obsession with light into every canvas. He specializes in making the commonplace extraordinary, and this piece is a perfect example.

The Gallatin River was named in 1805 by Meriwether Lewis, in honor of then-Treasury Secretary Albert Gallatin, and it flows 120 miles from its headwaters in Yellowstone down through our own backyard here in Bozeman.

This soft pastel by Montana artist Paul Waldum has us dreaming of that gorgeous fall light along its banks.
