“Moonrise Wolf”, acrylic paint markers on wolf skull. Sagebrush, mountains and wildflowers under a sunset sky with the moon cresting the horizon. It’s special to get to be a part of this landscape, and some of my favorite moments are being out in the sage when all of a sudden you notice a giant ball of light starting to rise over the peaks. It’s a sign that the light of the day is almost gone and it’s time to retreat to our human world while nature continues its dance under the moonlight. Tomorrow is another day and whether it’s watching wolves or simply the sun taking its turn to rise, nature surely will have a gift or a surprise for you. Legally and ethically sourced wolf skull, an honor to add to its story.

Some recents scenes from midway through Winter. It’s been weirdly snowless, but thankfully that hasn’t slowed down beautiful sightings like these. Will miss seeing some of these big burly moose as often once the weather warms up. They’re such a symbol of the wild frozen woods and it’s always inspiring to spend time with them.

“Aurora Bull, Left”, acrylic paint markers on caribou antler. Finished this one during our latest cold snap, where temps dropped to -45F! Felt appropriate to be hunkered down inside working on an ode to the Arctic wildlife that deal with those cold conditions more often than we do in Montana! Arctic wolves, Arctic fox, and musk ox, all under the Northern Lights. I’ve got the matching side to this set of caribou antlers, likely doing it next with some other Northern wildlife. Stay tuned!

An exceptionally great wolf day last week! Wolf activity comes and goes. Lots of days they’re distant dots. Some days we don’t see them at all. Then there are days where seemingly around every bend is an amazing view of these beautiful animals. As always, so fortunate to get to spend so much time not only with wolves, but in their beautiful home.

“Above the Confluence”, 16”x20”, acrylic paint markers on wood. My best wildlife sighting of 2023 is also my first painting of 2024! Finished 25 paintings last year, excited to try and exceed that this year. Lots more antlers and maybe some more scenes from my photos like this.

Moose are showing back up just in time for the Holidays! Some cute coyotes spending time together as well. Whatever you do or don’t celebrate, enjoy the end of your year. Thru the ups and downs, the sun is going to set each night and rise the next morning. All we can do is ride the wave. I’m always trying to do my best to find the beauty in life. It’s everywhere. Last three day tour of the year starting tomorrow, it’ll be exciting to see what’s out there!

Beautiful and long encounter with a female black wolf of the Junction Butte Pack on a cold and frosty morning. Some of these look like black and white but that was just the natural setting at the time. Lucky to get to experience such natural beauty in a daily basis. Best wolf encounter of the Winter so far for me, now bring on more snow!

“Scout Team II”, 24”x36”, acrylic paint markers on wood. Revisiting a composition I did as a screen print over 5 years ago now. This is a scene that plays out often in Yellowstone: a group of wolves creeping on a bison herd. It generally takes quite a few wolves to bring down a bison, and I imagine these ones as calling for backup to see if there’s any vulnerable members of the herd. Have been working on antlers for the last couple of months unlocked some new detailing techniques and it was fun to just let it fly on a flat surface again! This one is already sold but will be adding prints and a big website update after the Holidays. The exact opposite of what I probably should have done 😂 bonus points if you can guess how many bison are in this herd!
