Wire Caballo

Wire Caballo Wire sculpture by artist Teal Young Teal Young has been sculpting wire for the past twenty years.

At eight, she was inspired by local artist Tina DeWeese to try the medium, and by ten she had begun to market them to the general public. She began with a simple process of trial and error, sculpting in a way that felt natural. She challenged herself to create sculptures out of just one piece of wire, and over several years taught herself to do exactly that. Wire Caballo is named for her signature

piece, as "caballo" (pronounced cah-BAH-yoh) is Spanish for horse. Horses initially became her primary subject matter as a result of her love of horses, and have continued to inspire her through the grace of the equine figure. She now sculpts many other subjects, but continues to be fascinated by the horse and its phenomenal range of movement and expression. Years of study and riding have familiarized her with the anatomy and temperament of the horse, and experience has nourished her art. Today, Teal can be found sculpting at the local Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings, and is occasionally featured in local stores and galleries. She welcomes commissions and sculpts a wide variety of animals and people, including pets and creatures real and imaginary.

Since I consider all of you friends, and I know you're already interested in my work, I figured it wouldn't hurt to to leave this here.

Hi folks! As you may know, this year has hit me hard-- right in the kidneys. I'm doing well, feeling good, and working hard, even while I'm on dialysis, but I don't think I can save enough before my transplant to avoid becoming a burden to my family and my roommates. Receiving a kidney will rende...

A quick preview of new work this weekend!

06/17/2016

I'm excited to announce that I've recovered my strength in time to participate in Farmers' Market this year, and I'll be in my usual spot on opening day! Hope to see you all bright and early tomorrow morning!

06/16/2016

My recovery has been long, and still isn't over, but good news: I'm finally able to sculpt again, and I'm working on one of my largest pieces ever!

03/02/2016

Thanks again to those clients awaiting my recovery! I'm hoping to go home in the next week or so. Until then, make art, not war!

Good morning, art lovers! I just wanted to send a shoutout to all of the commission clients patiently waiting for their pieces while I am in the hospital. For those who don't know, I've been ill for about a month and a half and hospitalized for three weeks. I haven't forgotten all of your shining faces and orders!
