There is something that happens when we say yes to God. Not a cautious, hedging yes. A full one. Arms open, hand raised, everything on the table.
The figure in this painting is pregnant. Carrying something that was conceived the moment she said yes. That is not an accident. The things God places in us, His purposes, His dreams for our lives, they are conceived by His Spirit and carried to fullness in us. But they require something from us first. The two things we hold onto hardest: our need to control and our willingness to obey.
The wave rushing toward the outstretched hand is not gentle. It is the power of God meeting her agreement. This is what becomes possible when we open our hands.
