Anybody recognize that silhouette? I never thought I'd have a request for a holster for one of these. I gotta say though, the person who puts in the practice with the tools they have will perform better than the person who tries to buy skill.

If you're interesting in getting started in competitive shooting, or maybe you want to try a different type, Magic City Action Shooters is putting on an Intro to Competitive Shooting Class on February 1st. I can guarantee you that this class will be professional, informative, and safe. Here's the text from the email:

"Want to get started in Steel Challenge, USPSA Pistol Competition or Multigun? Have already tried out one of those, but are interested in learning more about another? Are you already a competitive shooter, and have a buddy you want to get involved? Then this is the class for you! We will talk about the basic rules and gear for each type of match, as well as the safety and basic rules. For those who want to shoot a little at the class, bring your gear and some ammunition, and we can do some shooting as well. Please make sure ALL fi****ms are unloaded and cased. Eye and ear protection is mandatory for all shooters and spectators.

We will meet at 10 AM at the pistol range building. You do not need to be a member of the Billings Rod and Gun Club to attend this class."

I've been interested in AIWB holsters with accommodations for carrying an extra magazine for a couple years. I actually made a holster with a similar concept a little more than a year ago, but it wasn't a fully fleshed out idea and I wasn't very happy with it. In fact, I had mostly decided that maybe that concept wasn't good for Treasure State Kydex. Last night, I was thinking about holsters while eating dinner and I decided that I was ready to try again. It turns out that if you spend a couple years making holsters, there's a good chance you'll get a lot better at making holsters. Weird, right? I had the Vanguard Claw on the bench, but I'll swap it out for a ModWing as soon as I get some more in stock.

First impression:
It's clear that there is significantly more "stuff" inside the belt. I had to loosen my belt about 1/2" to be comfortable. If I wasn't already very comfortable carrying AIWB, I think this setup would feel overwhelming. My pants are all sized to be comfortable when worn with a holster, but for someone who doesn't carry every day and hasn't adjusted their clothing for that purpose, I think they'd be pretty uncomfortable. Printing doesn't seem to be significantly different than a standard AIWB holster. The magazine hugs the body pretty well. The heal of the pistol is still the main printing concern. I ran through the Army PRT Preperation Drill (5 reps each and skipped the Prone Row) and the holster stayed in position through all the exercises.

I'm going to make it my primary carry holster for a couple weeks and then see how I feel about it.

I'm attempting the Eleanor Standard this morning. My timer isn't working correctly. I'll have to pull the times off my video, but I'm sure I'm not making the time. I'm just really pleased that I can hit the target.

The Benchmade 940 series is one of the best everyday-carry knife designs on the market. It feels very small in the pocket, but opens up to be a very useful and comfortable size in the hand.

I tend to carry my knife in my right front pants pocket. That way I can easily grab it with my dominant hand. This is problematic when I'm wearing an outside-waistband pistol holster. I wear my outside-waistband holster at 3 o'clock, which means it covers my right front pants pocket. I made up a small sheath so that I can transfer my knife from my pocket to my belt when I'm wearing an outside-waistband holster. If you don't have a dedicated knife on your range belt, something like this might be a good solution.
