Have you ever wondered where drywall came form?
Relative to other things in construction trades drywall itself is a pretty new innovation.
It first began with Augustine Sackett in the late 1890s, Sackett experimented with gypsum boards and coming up with Sackett Boards as a quicker alternative to traditional plastering.
A big breakthrough came in 1916 when USG (Untied States Gypsum Company) patented modern drywall branded as Sheetrock.
The new lightweight panels could be nailed up and significantly decreased the drying of old plaster homes. Drying of plaster homes at times could take weeks even up to a month. With new USG Sheetrock it could now be done in days.
At first its was regarded as a cheap alternative by the tradesmen’s of the time but in my next post I will explain why Drywall took over in the USA 🇺🇸.
