Controversial podcast episode alert! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Episode 17 of the BAD Podcast is fresh off the Internet presses. In the service of self expression, not merely for clickbait purposes, Jim and I discuss our reasons behind not voting as well as the types of actions we participate in/would be interested in within the right context. We believe our arguments to be nuanced, fair, and at times deeply philosophical (thanks, Jim!). I think what we mainly wanted to get across is that when we're already so disempowered to different degrees, we don't need to disempower ourselves more with our personal choices. We believe that the systems we're living under could never represent us or provide equality even if they functioned perfectly.

We also talk about monkey wrenching, unschooling, and one of my polyamory stories from years ago. These topics are part of our second segment where we discuss the anarchist individual as part of a whole. How much do we consider our own needs versus the needs of the collective? When is it time to leave a group? Is a beautiful community sans hierarchy and control even possible? Our process of discussing these questions seems more important than any answers we could come to (because the answers will vary widely depending on the group).

If you would like to discuss any of these topics with us, we're always open to DMs and emails ([email protected]). Send us additional questions or literally anything you want.

Don't let the bastards get you down, babes! ๐Ÿ’‹

As the sun sets and through a mid-episode coughing bout, we (Aly and Jim) return with a pretty substantive and no doubt controversial episode focusing on why we don't vote. Can that be justified when there's an actual authoritarian fascist running for office? Obviously, we believe so and fall in the line of anarchists, such as Emma Goldman, who have traditionally refused to vote. So, if we don't vote, what do we do? The conversation morphs into a discussion of feelings about various tactics, and that morphs further into discussing the tension anarchism has always had between respecting the autonomy of the individual while honoring justice for the entire community. In that line, we talk about individual anarchism and anarcho communism, but go deeper into beliefs about what is possible. Pascal's Wager makes a surprise feature appearance throughout the episode. And we discuss Peter Kropotkin at various times both for the better and for the worse.

NEW EVENT ALERT โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

Jim will be starting a new course on Feb. 17th that has been a long time in the making. He is a trained Chakradance facilitator (you can read about what that means on dance.intimacycadre.org) who taught a similar class about four years ago. People I've spoken with who took that class reported feeling a deep sense of community, revelation, and healing. I have been urging him to facilitate Chakdradance again, but the element he was waiting on was a physical space. That is secured now, and I'm so excited to experience this modality for the first time along with whoever joins us.
Don't worry, no public dancing involved. There will be movement, but in a calm room with eyes closed and light guiding to make sure we don't smack into walls. Meditation, discussion, and mandala-coloring will also be a part of the process. From what I gather, there's a create-your-own-journey kind of spirituality to it - while we will be focusing on one chakra for 7 of the 9 weeks, you can love the concept of chakras or leave it. The premise is a prompt for self understanding.
Like I said, check out Jim's beautiful website for more information about himself, Chakradance, and how to register. I feel that it will be a really special event. Bozeman needs more intentional spaces that aren't full of fake ass love and light ๐Ÿ˜˜ That's just my two cents.

The BAD Podcast is back and slightly more chill than usual with "Sunshine State Connections and Queerly Dumpster Diving for More". If you like chill people, this may be the only chance you'll ever get to see us that way ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just kidding. By most standards, we are still pretty boisterous in the episode. Due to how busy we both have been with exciting developments in our lives, though, we are a bit subdued. Check out the audio version on any platform or the video version on YouTube if you're curious about said developments. Spoiler alert: I'm pretty gay. XOXO.

For more info about our free public dances, ethos, writings, etc, check out bozemanantifadance.org. There's a pretty sweet article on there about me and my dog. You can also make me weep from happiness by emailing [email protected].

The BAD PODCAST - Sunshine State Connections and Queerly Dumpster Diving for More (Episode 16)

Connection is the loose thread in this episode, where Aly and I (Jim) explore my recent magical trip to South Florida, where I talk about the beautiful things I took from ecstatic dancing in a beautifully held environment, the most spectacular drum circle I have ever been, and a little into my experience in a ta***ic massage class. Then, Aly talks about her experiences in dumpster diving and a brief discussion of freganism and the unexpected creative opportunity that arises from it. Finally, Aly explores her own personal discovery into her q***rness in light of her exciting new exploration with a non-binary person.

I want to give a special shout out to Ecstatic Dance Florida (https://www.facebook.com/groups/EcstaticDanceFlorida/), Jaistar Studios (https://www.jaistar.com/), and also to Michelle Alva (https://michellealva.com/) and Ta**ra Studios (https://www.ta**ra-studios.com/) who all helped make my trip to South Florida so special.

And as always, you can find us at https://www.bozemanantifadance.org (audio only version of podcast available there, too, as well as all our podcasts). Note that we are dancing now every Sunday at 1 PM at Soroptimist Park (Main and Rouse in downtown Bozeman). All dancing is good dancing! You are welcome to join us!

When I (Aly) meet new people who ask me what I "do" (Jim's LEAST favorite small talk question that I'm only slightly more accepting of), I usually tell them that I dance on sidewalks. And they're like, "What? Why?"
Jim and I explain the what and the why of what we do frequently. Several funky anti-establishment people get us, but Jim thought that for those who are still confused about why we dance in public and how the heck it can be considered anarchism, we should film a whole park session and talk about it. Hence, we present pod episode 15: "Dance with Us - Like Right Now" with 45 minutes of dancing (was supposed to be more but we got copyright struck; here's a reminder to please take any of our content because we don't believe in owning our creations) and half an hour or so of us chatting about our experiences while dancing. This one doesn't make much sense to listen to on Spotify or other audio streaming services, so head on over to bozemanantifadance.org or search Bozeman Antifa Dance on YouTube to find the visual episode.
We recommend dancing with us if you would like. When was the last time you had a party in your bedroom? Hopefully, not too long. We won't judge if you just want to be a fly on the wall, though.
Thank you to Jim for your relentless work on this project and thanks to myself for doing so many dang squats. Stay fabulous, everyone.

The 14th episode of The BAD Podcast, "Love is More than a Feeling (and Thoughts on Palestine)", is up and away! I (Aly) weep in it multiple times and Jim gets teary-eyed and passionate, as well. Together we tried to get to the heart of what "love" means outside of a cisheteropatriarchal context, when it is applied to friends who are treated like lovers, kids, parents, animals, and the world. Briefly touching on Jim's dating prospects is a silly cherry on top. Have you written down your personal definition of love? Do you think earth-shattering love is dead altogether? Spoiler: despite any cynicism we have about dating or humanity on occasion, we know that deep love is not only real but something to put one's utmost faith in.
We have been mostly silent on this page about Palestine and Israel due to the inner conflict of wanting freedom for oppressed peoples and an immediate end to suffering, but also not wanting them to be forced to return to "normal" colonization afterwards. Indeed, Jim and I support no country. The existence of borders perpetuates social violence and always will. However, we do our best to navigate the reality of the situation in Gaza and other sites of genocide while expressing our heartbreak at what comes from an absence of love. No one is free until we are all free.

Not "love and light", but "love and revolt" โค๏ธ

(sorry about the microphone covering Jim's face most of the episode - not intentional! - there is an audio only version on the website you can get to from link in the first comment) - Aly and Jim talk about love, particularly how Aly defines it and how many of the deepest aspects of it can apply to people who are not our romantic partners. Indeed, much of the discussion is not about romance but rather the practice of love in non-traditional ways and how we can reapply those ideas back into some of our more traditionally defined relationships. However, some of us still want romantic love, and Aly screens some of Jimโ€™s dating prospects as they discuss why Jim doesnโ€™t have a ton of hope in his current foray into dating and why he finds it challenging. Finally, the two loving comrades share their passionate feelings about the travesty of war throughout the world, with special attention to Palestine. They share the uneasy place they find themselves as anarchists who donโ€™t believe in nation states yearning to find solidarity with the suffering of people often made harder by the acts of loveless state actors poisoning the situation and using the suffering of others for their own purposes.
