It’s been a month full of all kinds of random things going on! Between deadlines at work, spring break, a quick overnight trip and lots of spring cleaning it’s been a bit of a whirlwind.

▫️How are you guys doing out there?
▫️What keeps you on track for creating?
▫️Are you making stuff daily or less often?

I am averaging being creative about 4 times a week.✨🎨🖊️📒

I have been thinking a lot about what inspires me this year and how to keep the flow moving when that inspiration hits.

I attended a Vision Board class yesterday with a creative friend and it was so refreshing! I enjoyed talking with my friend, working with my hands, looking at colorful photos while thinking about what I want my future to look like. My focus words this year are how I personally connect with being ME and creating.

🦄🦚 One thing I know for sure - making time for art is my mental health non-negotiable. What are you doing this year to help yourself be creative, feel good and stay well?

Kiwi Go Again
20x16
Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

The Kiwi in this painting is showcased with local flora - Lupine - and designed with inspiration from a good friend's travel to New Zealand and his experience with the Kiwi Bird Sanctuary and his photographic tour of the incredibly vibrant island. I wanted this piece to be full of life and some wonder.

Happy National Vintage Day! 🎙️✨ (Who knew that was a thing?)
If you’ve ever wondered why my art looks the way it does, just look at my middle school wardrobe. I was the kid in the 90s wearing my parents’ 70s "hippie" gear and blasting classic rock. My "love language" is Mid-Century Modern and I’ll fight anyone who says avocado green isn’t a neutral. 🥑

The "Brooke" Starter Pack:
✨ The Vibe - 60s/70s rock on loop through my childhood.
✨ The Obsession: Massive piles of costume jewelry (thanks, Gramma!) and sequins.
✨ The Evidence - Ask about the Pasadena flea market where I was told, "We can't look at every piece of jewelry." (I bought a roadrunner brooch. Zero regrets.)
✨ How it shows up in my work - I’m a mix of dopamine-bright colors and vintage ochres, spilled behind weird birds and fun florals. If it feels like a 1960s bathrobe had a love affair with an aviary, I probably made it.

Thanks for being here and fueling my vintage-loving soul! 🌈

Orange Sunday

Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

My mom picked me up a great old book full of butterflies and moths. I told her once about 7 years ago that I love vintage reference books for critters, foliage, birds and flowers. Homegirl does not disappoint with her book finds throughout her book thrifting journeys. We have an amazing used book store in Sheridan called Ye Olde Book Nook - shoutout to Vi and her daughter that run the local store. The place is LITERALLY floor to ceiling with books and I have found some fun stuff there...so does my mom. I am very grateful for places like Vi's to shop for unique finds and I love even more the inspiration from the old books.

I will make a video one of these days featuring all of the fun references I use for my art.

I am starting a new posting style for my little corner of the creative universe here. I have been missing the whimsical boost graphics give my life and I'm taking you with me on this journey.

I am taking it back to my graphic design roots and adding more design elements into my marketing. I have felt a consistent pull to get back to my graphics background so you all get to experience some of the ways I am going to share myself and my art on this platform.

The "Why" Behind the need for Whimsy: Life can be heavy. We all feel it. For me, painting is where I go to find the light. I don't just paint birds; I paint the feeling of finding a little bit of magic in an average weekday. We all deserve a little more whimsy, don’t you think?✨

I went back and fixed an already sealed, photographed and marketed painting.

Something about this piece felt off to me and I knew it was the beak. It looked too low, there were too many wispy face feathers and I never felt like it represented the owl I was attempting ti feature.

Today, I just fixed it. It’s WAY more representative of the actual bird and I am glad I took the leap. When it’s completely dry I will seal the area I painted over and re-photograph the piece.

It was scary, but I went for it and I’m glad I did!✨🎨
The piece hadn’t sold and didn’t get the traction I had hoped for so maybe this will get this pretty piece to its forever home!

It’s not super spectacular, but I am working on adding some intentional whimsy to one of the paintings I have in-progress and I am loving the style and colors.

In all honesty, I am struggling with everything that’s going on and it’s been a challenge to find some dopamine. Creating still gets me the boost I need, but it’s still hard most days to sit down and focus beyond all of the worldly chaos, parenting obligations, daily tasks and all the things. I know these feelings aren’t forever, but damn they feel heavy right now.

That’s all from me! Enjoy some whimsical leaves in a lovely mint color and have a great day.🍃✨

My friend Mandy over at came to my home and photographed me in my creative space. I wanted some updated creative/art photos for marketing and to represent where I am today after all of the chaos, love and life transition the last three years have brought and I have learned to embraced.

I realized the last set of artist portraits I had done were from 2022 by a good friend and I had just made it through working at a health clinic during COVID, had quit my job to create art and consult full time and to work on me and my mental health. I hadn’t gotten braces yet to adjust my teeth and I’ve lost a decent amount of weight since then with learning to love myself AND TAKE CARE OF ME FOR ME again.

It’s been a wild ride and I’m here for it. I am here for you AND me. Let’s get through the next chapter together, pals.

Make art. Show kindness. Be aware. Show love.

I don’t have a title yet, but it’s turning out to be a beautiful way to start 2026.

Details are getting sketched! I am holding onto that tiny pencil for dear life and assisting my forehead lines with their journey to live rent free on my face.

Not a whole lot in my little piece of the world as of right now, but I am creating and developing work ideas for 2026! More to come, friends.🍾🎨🦄🦚

My full time job is in full swing and making time for art is important for my mental health so you will see more in the near future.♥️ Thanks for hanging in there.
