JFK’s bold experiment produced future ambassadors to lead America through five decades of war, crisis, and sweeping global change.

They tracked looted antiquities during the war in Iraq, re-established diplomacy amid the post-9/11 invasion of Afghanistan, and brought infrastructure to villages while war raged in Vietnam. As hostages in Iran, they maintained diplomatic discipline to bridge a volatile divide. These are individuals of deep courage and conviction, whether integrating a southern U.S. high school or finding comfort in African village beliefs to grieve personal loss.

Linking Peace Corps service with diplomatic achievement, Profiles highlights how the volunteer experience shaped careers—and modern American diplomacy.

Edith Higgenbothum is a 1950s housewife and mother in the “atomic town” of Richland, Washington. Edith’s husband, Herbert, is an engineer at Hanford, a secretive federal atomic weapons facility just north of town. Edith’s world, which is enshrouded in the myths, prejudices, and delusions of 1950s America, is thrown into turmoil and fear when her son Herbie powers up his father’s uranium prospecting Geiger counter. The device emits an ear-shattering barrage of clicks, revealing that the milk in a nearby glass is radioactive.

When Herbie is diagnosed with thyroid cancer caused by radioactive iodine in the milk, Edith allies with other mothers whose children are the victims of “summer snow” and other forms of radioactive fallout from plutonium production and A-bomb tests. Edith embarks on a quest pitting her against the Atomic Energy Commission and other power brokers who value atomic secrecy over the health of communities, all in the name of national security.

What’s at stake is no less than the lives of children.

Five generations forge a path from famine-fueled immigration to prosperity in America. In the 19th Century the Clearys flee Ireland to scratch out survival in rural Virginia, relying on farming, hard work and a connection to the spiritual to move the family forward. With each generation there are new obstacles to face and overcome including less than hospitable land, illness, injury, and threats to family bonds. With a timeline of 1849 to 1974 the family faces danger as the story winds through the Civil War, World War II, and finally Vietnam, each epoch leaving its mark. A fresh crisis hits in the 1930’s when the state seizes mountain land to make way for the Shenandoah National Park. The family’s way of life is destroyed, how will they adapt? And what about the distinctive red oak gracing the property, the burled giant that has been a spiritual presence watching over the family for decades? How does nature find a way when modern life comes calling?

Mick Morkan always knew this would be a tough case. Suing a couple of ex-CIA agents linked to a high-profile scandal wasn’t going to be your gentlemanly civil action. Still, he didn’t expect to be roaming the Caribbean, armed with a cryptic map, tracking down hidden loot to enforce the judgment. Figuring out the map was one thing. Fending off pirates, rogue operatives, and a local naval garrison… Well, frankly, he hadn’t included those line-items in his original litigation plan. Come to think of it, he also hadn’t included a romantic attachment to one of the parties in the case.
Shadow Islands: A political scandal, stolen millions, and a cryptic map lead four Vietnam veterans to an abandoned CIA base on a remote Caribbean Island. The only obstacles to making off with the loot: modern-day pirates, a local naval garrison, and some well-armed ex-CIA agents.

When a Vietnam vet turned lawyer embarks with his clients on a high-stakes quest for justice, he encounters explosive conflict, a dash of romance, and the moral complexities of revenge. The result is an exhilarating thriller that blends the intrigue of a Caribbean treasure hunt with electrifying action and historical insight.―Dan Mayland author of The Colonel’s Mistake

In parts treasure hunt, high seas adventure, legal drama, and armed conflict, Shadow Islands launches an exciting ride from the political intrigue of the Iran-Contra affair. CWP Jones delivers his thoroughly engaging tale with intelligent prose, dry wit, and exotic flights of imagination. A debut novel not to be missed!—V.S. Kemanis, author of Power Blind

With stops in Belize, Miami and obscure parts of the Caribbean, a lawyer’s pursuit of justice and revenge leads to the Shadow Islands. Along the way, we’re treated to a compelling plot and captivating characters, leavened with humanity and humor.—Bill Sonn, author of Something Like Treason

Just Released-THE N**I BOMB-the real story of why the N**is did not have an atomic bomb.

October 29, 1944 – a rare brilliant sunny day in London. The parks were full of people enjoying what might be the last warm day be-fore the gloom of a dreary wartime winter settled in.

With no sound of its approach, the hypersonic V-2 ballistic mis-sile exploded. Londoners had been experiencing V-2s since early in September, but with a much greater payload capaci-ty, this one was an improved version.

Instead of a high explosive warhead killing perhaps 20 or 30 people, this explosive produced a blinding flash of light far brighter than the sun that was seen for miles around. In an instant half of Londen was obliterated by the world’s first atomic bomb explosion used against an enemy target.

Hey, wait a minute! Wait a minute,” you say. “That didn’t happen.”

No it did not, and if you want to know the real story of why it did not happen, you must read The N**i Bomb..

Janey finds it a thrill to follow him into the business and break out of her shell. After he’s arrested for fraud, she takes the leap and chooses instead to go undercover as a police guard to break him out. What follows is a mad-cap, gritty chase across the country pursued by the law, crooked assailants and their own demons
