We are devastated about the loss of the iconic Dolly Parton, and are so grateful we could include the wonderful documentary "Still Working 9 to 5," featuring her, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, as our Closing Night Film at the 2023 Boulder International Film Festival. Rest in peace, Dolly; we will always love you.©1978 Gary Lewis

"Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World" was one of the most popular films at BIFF 2026, with three sold-out screenings. Don't miss your chance to see this amazing film about the beloved poet!

Celebrated best-selling poet, Pulitzer Prize-winner, lover of dogs and long walks in the woods, openly q***r but intensely private, Oliver was America’s unlikely contemporary mystic, stalking the ponds and forests of Cape Cod for nearly fifty years in order to open herself – and her readers – to the known and unknowable world. Her inspirational poems speak directly to contemporary anxieties about attention, presence, and the human relationship with the natural world – issues that feel especially pressing in an era of climate crisis, digital distraction, and social fragmentation.

Featuring interviews with her close friends, including John Waters, never-before-seen personal photos, notebooks, correspondence from her archive, and recitations of her work, Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World considers the poet’s long lifetime of work in context, capturing the uniqueness of her world and the natural beauty that inspired her.

Plus: Talkback with Michele Battiste, 2026-28 Poet Laureate of Lafayette, Colorado, after the 7 PM screening on July 30th.

Catch Mary Oliver: Saved By the Beauty of the World, July 29 to August 2, at the Boedecker Theater.

BIFF & The Boe Present: “The Weight of Water” with Director Michael Brown, screening July 28.

Winner of the 2019 Boulder International Film Festival "Call to Action" Award, plus four other national film festival awards, "The Weight of Water" follows the story of blind thrill seeker Erik Weihenmayer. For this epic challenge, Erik solo kayaks the entire Grand Canyon and navigates treacherous waters, including Lava Falls.

When Erik became the first blind person to summit Everest, Boulder-based adventure filmmaker Michael Brown was there with cameras rolling, and the award-winning film "Farther Than the Eye Can See" was the result. When Erik wanted to solo kayak the length of the Grand Canyon, Michael adapted his skills to film the endeavor, capturing the incredible story of a blind man's quest to conquer his fear of drowning.

“It’s so hard to be fully in the moment because there’s so much fear, there’s so much anxiety, it’s like a person looking through a window at an experience rather than being in the experience.” – Erik Weihenmayer

Award-winning Boulder-based filmmaker Michael Brown (Director) will attend and do a Q&A at the screening.

Catch “The Weight of Water” on Tuesday, July 28, at The Boe. Tickets available here: https://thedairy.org/event/the-weight-of-water-with-michael-brown/

BIFF and The Boe present: “City Slickers” - a Colorado150 Film Festival selection, screening July 21.

In this Western comedy, Billy Crystal plays Mitch Robbins, the Manhattan yuppie on the verge of a midlife crisis. Joined by his best friends Ed and Phil, the trio set out to reignite their masculinity and conquer their fear of aging. Now, the utterly unprepared thrill-seekers are playing cowhands on a real-life, two-week cattle drive from New Mexico to Colorado to find freedom. Will the clueless city slickers ever become real cowboys?

The only Oscar it won was for Jack Palance for Best Supporting Actor, but the Southwestern landscape nearly steals the show. The gorgeous photography of the high mountain desert captures the essence of Durango, featuring the sprawling ranches and nearly 2 million acres of wild national forest surrounding the city. Scenes from the movie were filmed at a ranch in La Plata County, Colorado, a place immortalized in Westerns such as “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “A Ticket to Tomahawk”.

Catch “City Slickers" on Tuesday, July 21, at The Boe. Tickets available here: https://thedairy.org/event/city-slickers/

BIFF and The Boe Present: 'Racing Extinction'

'Racing Extinction' won the Catalyst Award at BIFF 2015.
CO150 Film Festival brings award-winning Boulder filmmaker Olivia Ahnemann to the Boedecker Theater for a screening on July 14, plus Q&A after the film.

After winning an Oscar for the documentary 'The Cove', filmmaker Louie Psihoyos and much of his team went on to make this Oscar-nominated documentary, once again featuring undercover activists gaining rare footage in the fight to stave off man-made mass extinction.

'Racing Extinction' exposes the hidden world of wildlife crime. Infiltrating the world’s most dangerous black markets, a covert team unmasks the dark world of wildlife trafficking, a lucrative and organized enterprise with links to criminal syndicates. Using high-tech tactics, OPS reveals never-before-seen images that will forever change the way we see the world, bringing a voice to the thousands of species teetering on the brink of survival.

BIFF and The Boe present:

"South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut" - a Colorado150 Film Festival selection.

Before they owned Colorado’s favorite campy restaurant Casa Bonita, Matt Stone and Trey Parker were film students at CU-Boulder. This feature film was created only 30 episodes into their hit series "South Park," making it one of the fastest TV-to-film adaptations in television history. The film follows Eric Cartman and his friends as they infiltrate an R-rated movie. The town is scandalized, left believing that Canada is to blame for the kids' new level of vulgarity.

Catch "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" on Monday, July 6 at The Boe. Tickets available here:

BIFF and the Boe Present *BlackKkKlansmen*
🎟️ Catch *BlacKkKlansman* TOMORROW (June 23) at Boedecker Theater, as part of the Colorado 150 Film Festival.

Colorado Springs. The 1970s. An undercover operation so unbelievable it sounds made up.

*BlacKkKlansman* tells the true story of Ron Stallworth, the first Black detective in the Colorado Springs Police Department, and his infiltration of the K*K.

Sharp, funny, uncomfortable, unforgettable. Spike Lee somehow manages to make history feel immediate and electric.
