UPDATE: Dear Friends and Family of The Marquee,

Like all of our musician friends, promoters, managers, sound and light crews, security guards, bartenders and others who make live shows happen, all of our upcoming gigs have been cancelled. We can’t run stories on shows that aren’t happening, put together a calendar for venues that have no acts, or promote festivals that have been cancelled.

With that, The Marquee will very unfortunately be on indefinite pause alongside the rest of the live music community.

We’ll keep you posted about our re-emergence. Until then, stay safe everyone, but most of all be kind, and very soon we hope, we’ll again see you at the shows.

Dear Friends and Family of The Marquee,

Like all of our musician friends, promoters, managers, sound and light crews, security guards, bartenders and others who make live shows happen, all of our upcoming gigs have been cancelled. We can’t run stories on shows that aren’t happening, put together a calendar for venues that have no acts, or promote festivals that either have, or are likely, to be cancelled.

With that, our April 2020 issue — our annual 4/20 issue — will very unfortunately not be taken to press. We have yet to make that decision about our May Summer Festival Guide, but if things proceed as they have been, that issue is likely to be skipped as well. For 17 years, we’ve compared the process and foundation of The Marquee over and over again to that of a musician/band, and never before has that analogy been so accurate. Like so many in our live music community, we’ll be working as hard as we can, to do all that we can, to continue to help and support each other in these times of social distancing and lost revenue. We’ll keep you posted on our updated press schedule as it evolves. Until then, stay safe everyone, but most of all be kind, and very soon we hope, we’ll again see you at the shows.

"Our bodies are stoplights/Our minds are the streets.
We scratch and we scrape/We’re scared then we're brave" - The Hold Steady

*ALBUM REVIEW*

Common said the title of his new EP THE LOW WINES Vol 1 is “a reference to the unrefined part of the whiskey distilling process. The low wines aren’t trying to impress anyone. And they pretty much kill you or make you go blind if you drink them. They’re raw and unproduced and still becoming… but when you do them right, they turn into something beautiful.”

Full album review for John Common's new EP. The Low Wines can be found at marqueemag.com.

*ALBUM REVIEW*

"The Denver singer-songwriter who was diagnosed with a rare, motor skill-robbing nerve disorder in 2015 has been on a prolific streak since his diagnosis and his latest release, appropriately titled Remedy is quite frankly, the best prescription that his doctor hasn’t written."

Check out The Marquee's album review of Brian Bourgault's newest release, Remedy.

*ALBUM REVIEW*

Paul DeHaven’s second LP, Echoes and Overtones, came about initially while he was in the midst of writing and rehearsing for the recording of a record with a full band with abundant material to choose from. That’s when he realized he had a solid set of “more mellow, acoustic guitar-based songs that fit really well together.” So, while not rehearsing material for the full band he sorted through those songs in his home studio.

Full review for Paul DeHaven's new record Echoes and Overtones.

Catch Paul DeHaven live tomorrow, March 5th at The Ubisububi Room.

“Free Your Mind is about exploring all of the different things that make us human — the things that connect us to ourselves and to each other — so that we can get to know our true selves and live our greatest lives without anything holding us back,” said Lalli and Salken.

*ALBUM REVIEW*

"Across the 10 tracks on And It’s Still Alright, Rateliff never loses hope — hope that it’s all part of a bigger plan. While the songs are quieter and more reflective than the exuberant soul The Night Sweats have become famous for, they are no less urgent and indelible, as he pushes the boundaries and finds new depths in his songwriting — a singular voice embarking on a personal exploration of love, loss and perseverance."

The Marquee's full review of Nathaniel Rateliff's new album 'And It's Still Alright' can be found below and at marqueemag.com.
