Mimesis (n.) /məˈmēsis/
Resemblance, receptivity, representation, and the act of expression.

The Mimesis Documentary Festival in Boulder, Colorado, is a theatrical and virtual experience featuring in-person and at-home screenings, workshops, and conversations with documentary artists, scholars, and producers with some of the most dynamic voices in documentary media, from across the world.

This year, the Digital and Emerging Art Practices (DEAP) program in the Department of Art at MSU Denver is among the sponsors of the festival, supporting the festival’s commitment to experimental, interdisciplinary, and emerging approaches to documentary and media arts.

Artist-focused and community-oriented, the seventh annual Mimesis Documentary Festival is being held August 11-16, 2026, presented in collaboration with Boulder’s Dairy Arts Center and Seidel City.

Today, we celebrate one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century by revisiting Christopher Makos’ striking portrait, “Andy Warhol with Glasses.” Captured in New York City in 1986, the photograph offers an intimate glimpse of Warhol.

Celebrate the closing of Echoes in the Void: Works by Four Contemporary Abstract Painters on Friday, July 31, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with artist talks beginning at approximately 7:00 PM.

Join us for one final evening celebrating Echoes in the Void. Hear directly from exhibiting artists Rio Rayne and Daniel Strawn, along with curator Mark Sink, as they share the stories, creative processes, and inspirations behind the works on view.

Whether you’re visiting Seidel City for the first time or returning to see the exhibition once more, we look forward to welcoming both new and familiar friends for an evening of conversation, community, and contemporary art.

The exhibition features the work of Rio Rayne, Matt O’Neill, and Daniel Strawn, alongside From My Archives, a photography and collage presentation curated by Mark Sink.

Join us for an evening celebrating the final days of Echoes in the Void. Hear directly from exhibiting artists Rio Rayne and Daniel Strawn, along with curator Mark Sink, as they discuss the ideas, processes, and inspirations behind the works on view.

Last chance to see works by Natasha Mistry in Echoes in the Void: Works by Four Contemporary Abstract Painters.

Join us tomorrow evening for the exhibition’s closing reception from 6–9pm as we celebrate the conclusion of a remarkable presentation featuring the work of Rio Rayne, Matt O’Neill, Natasha Mistry, and Daniel Strawn.

Based between Boulder and London, Mistry’s practice explores the architecture of the subconscious through luminous geometric compositions that draw upon sacred geometry, organic patterns, and meditative space. Created using mica-infused oils, natural pigments, graphite, and meticulous pointillist techniques, her works invite contemplation while balancing precision and intuition.
