As December gives way to January’s more tranquil rhythm, I find comfort in embracing a slower pace. The hustle around the holidays, especially for my small business, has historically left me somewhat drained of inspiration and lacking motivation for my craft.
In anticipation of this annual lull and the accompanying guilt, I stowed away a ball of yarn, ready to join me on my New England Christmas break. Following patterns, I taught myself to knit something truly wearable for the first time. It turns out I love knitting.
The pursuit of new skills in adulthood continues to captivate me.
So, when the call to paint quiets in my soul, I turn to my various creative outlets that I often don’t share. To name a few – film photography, yoga, hiking, sipping espresso, baking, dancing in the kitchen, and reading by a sunlit window. Today, I started a pottery class, seeking to grow my skills on the wheel after 4 years away from the medium. These activities are each geared towards my growth as a creative, but a goal this year is to share more of my entire creative process - not solely the finished painting side.
May 2024 be a visual diary of my artistic evolution and daily rituals. And may the journey document the tapestry of my creative explorations—Im calling this year an ode to the work-in-progress artist.
