Concertino Strings’ next concerts are on June 10 and 13th, but we have something special for you before then. We are hosting a Baroque ensemble THE PERALTA CONSORT for a concert on MAY 23 at 2:30 PM at the Boulder Creek United Methodist Church.

Ten players from all over the Bay area will perform on genuine baroque style instruments, including flute, recorders, violins, viola, cello, violone and Harpsichord. They are playing an all Telemann program. Georg Philip Telemann was a contemporary of Bach and even more popular in their time; he wrote a huge amount of wonderful music and you will hear a bit of it!
As always at BCUMC, free admission.

Welcome! The Peralta Consort is a mixed ensemble performing music written before 1800 on a mixture of period and modern instruments. We are looking forward to our Performance Appearance schedule for 2025! Please check our 2026 Upcoming Performance Appearances for 2026! Keep these dates open! "Natura...

Concertino Strings had our first rehearsal today for our April concerts. It is going to be a very special program, fitting the mood of our nation. All the music is about longing for the past or dreaming of the future. Three local bay area composers are featured. We will have a return of soprano Emily Sinclair, who was ill and missed singing the Saturday concert in February; and there will be projection of video of stars along with Martin Gaskell's TO THE STARS.

This past weekend we lost a dear friend and musician, our Concertino Strings harpsichordist Roy Stegman. It was a sudden passing. He played the Manfredini Christmas Concerto at the Wednesday concert, then did not show up for the Saturday concert which was VERY unlike him; did not notify anyone. Sunday morning we finally persuaded police to force open his apt for a welfare check. He was on the floor and unresponsive. He had had renewed cardiac problems lately. He was 84.

It looks like there will be a feature article about Roy in the SC Sentinel soon by historian Ross Gibson who is Katharine Burke's brother. Watch out for that.

We can't yet really believe he is gone and will miss him terribly. We hope to memorialize Roy at our February Concerts, with some Bach.

Here's our next concert! Six composers, four conductor/leaders, and numerous soloists, including Jennifer Cass, harp soloist in Martin Gaskell's 'Fantasia'; Mary Kay Wilkinson in 'Sombor' by Les Thaler, honoring our dear deceased colleague Anna Sombor; Joanne Tanner in Vivaldi's Autumn, and members of the Open Heartstrings band and Nicki Kerns in Pig Ankles Rag (by Mamie Williams, 1905, arranged by Renata Bratt). Also spooky surprises by composers Charles Ives and Danny Elfman.

Next up! Our June concert, and we think it is going to be a very special one. The famous Albinoni/Giazotto Adagio features our newly rebuilt large organ. Mendelssohn's String Symphony is a buoyant work of genius by the composer as a 13 year-old. Where Falcons Fly is an inspiring piece by a young black composer. Renata Bratt and Joanne Tanner lead.

We are hosting a guest group, The Peralta Consort, on Saturday May 10th at 2:30 pm. They are an excellent ensemble composed of nine Baroque specialists who perform on period musical instruments (baroque flute, recorder, violins, viola, viola da gamba and violone, with harpsichord). They will play a concert at BCUMC on Saturday May 10th at 2:30 pm. Performers come from all over the San Francisco Bay area, and include two Boulder Creek residents who often play with Concertino Strings, violinists Eric Finley and Anna Sombor. Kraig Williams is director. Music by Telemann, Bach, Vivaldi and Handel will be on the program.

This concert will continue our fundraising efforts toward a much needed new roof for our 150 year old church. The concert is FREE TO ALL with donations encouraged; these will be shared between the performing group and our special fund for the church roof.
