NEXT WEEK: “Arnold J. Kemp: Three Performances” 🎭

On Saturday, October 17 at Tufts Granoff Music Center (20 Talbot Avenue, Medford), Tufts University Art Galleries and Fall 2026 exhibiting artist Arnold J. Kemp (Arnold Joseph) will present three works written and directed by Kemp, “February 14,” “In Arms,” and “The Otherists” (all 2024).

In the tradition of New Narrative and the Poets Theater, a term that applies to plays written by poets and artists and staged informally in the midst of an arts community, Kemp’s plays have a makeshift, let’s-do-the-show-right-here aesthetic. The performances unfold in a world that exists in the permeable space between reality and fiction, mixing the local community with characters across time and space — and will feature some familiar faces from around Tufts and the Great Boston Arts scene.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for the community-wide receptions in celebration of “SMFA at 150: Looking Back” in Boston and “Arnold J. Kemp: Not One Thing” in Medford. It was amazing to open our doors to such a wide audience of alumni, friends, community members, and more who came from Boston and beyond to gather and experience these exhibitions celebrating 150 years of student-centered pedagogy together ✨ Missed out or just can’t get enough? There are lots more opportunities to engage on the horizon 👇

🗓️ This Thursday, “SMFA at 150: Looking Back” co-organizers Jim Dow and Dell Hamilton will lead participants on a tour of the legacies of experimental practices in photography and performance at the storied art school.

⏭️ Then join us next week for a Friday afternoon conversation between exhibiting artist Arnold J. Kemp (Arnold Joseph) and Triple Canopy (Triple Canopy) Senior Editor Mira Dayal (Mira Dayal) and a Saturday evening performance of three short plays by Kemp, February 14, In Arms, and The Otherists at Tufts’ Granoff Music Center in Medford 🎭

🔦 Collaborator Spotlight: Mira Dayal

On Friday, October 16, Triple Canopy (grayson) Senior Editor and artist Mira Dayal will join Fall 2026 exhibiting artist Arnold J. Kemp to discuss how they work with language in their writing and visual practices, paying particular attention to the materiality, legibility, and production of text. Ahead of Kemp’s series of performances on Saturday, October 17, the pair will also consider how Kemp approaches contingencies—the theme of Triple Canopy’s next issue—across his visual art, writing and performances 🎭 RSVP to both events at the link in our bio 🔗

Mira Dayal is an artist, writer, and editor based in Brooklyn. She produces sculptures, drawings, installations, books, and interdisciplinary works that create and iterate larger systems of meaning. Dayal is currently Senior Editor at Triple Canopy and recently coedited “Track changes: a handbook for art criticism” (Paper Monument, 2023). Dayal has contributed more than a hundred features, interviews, exhibition reviews, and other texts to magazines, books, and gallery and museum catalogues. She holds a BA in Visual Arts - Economics from Barnard College and an MA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Dayal teaches at Barnard College and the School of Visual Arts in New York.

After four years with the Collective Futures Fund (CFF), supporting the grant since the start of its second grantee cycle, Program Coordinator Camila Bohan Insaurralde (Camila Bohan Insaurralde) is transitioning out of her role as Program Coordinator to take on an exciting new role as Programs and Partnerships Manager with Boston Art Review (Boston Art Review) as of this week.

In her role, Camila has worked hard to make CFF a recognizable resource in the arts ecosystem, expand our outreach, and connect with artist communities across Greater Boston. Their work supporting grantees and facilitating programming had made a monumental impact on organization and our local arts community.

Though it’s bittersweet news, we’re so happy for our colleague as they embark on this next step in their career, and they won’t be too far…we’re thrilled to announce that they have joined the CFF Advisory Council along with Joanna Tam (Joanna Tam), Jasper Sanchez (Jasper A. Sanchez), and Mary Amanda McNeil.

Stay tuned for more information on this new cohort and join us in congratulating Camila on this exciting new chapter in their journey in supporting artists and organizers in the Greater Boston Area and beyond 💫

On Friday, September 25 at 12pm, join Tufts University Art Galleries and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts MFA Program (SMFA at Tufts MFA) for an artist lecture with Fall 2026 exhibiting artist Arnold J. Kemp (Arnold Joseph) in the Anderson Auditorium at TUAG / Boston.

Kemp will reprise a 2023 performance lecture he developed after his first encounter with N. H. Pritchard’s poems in the Johnson Publishing Library, Chicago, bringing together recent scholarship and dynamic performance in honor of Pritchard’s innovative approach to poetry, sound, and visual art. Space is limited, and registration is encouraged.
