On Sunday (8/23), the Tanglewood grounds came alive with the sounds of "Ode to Joy," conducted by Gustavo Gimeno, signifying the final BSO concert of the summer. Alongside this Tanglewood tradition, Jean-Sébastien Vallée led the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and pianists Julia Carey and DJ Cleavinger in Brahms' sonorous “Selig sind, die da Leid tragen” from Ein deutsches Requiem.

On Friday (8/14), BSO Assistant Conductor Anna Handler led a BSO program at the intersection of music and dance. The Martha Graham Dance Company joined the BSO on stage for Copland's "Appalachian Spring," honoring Copland and Graham's iconic 1944 collaboration. The dancers returned for Christopher Rountree's "For Martha (Variations on a Theme of Leonard Bernstein)," a piece written for the Martha Graham Dance Company. Then, Anna and the BSO concluded the concert with Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, a work Richard Wagner called "the apotheosis of the dance."
