One thing I've learned after DJing weddings for over a decade is that the music is only part of the job. The details matter just as much.
What couples often don't see is everything happening behind the scenes. Knowing when to cue the photographer before a special moment. Coordinating with the venue staff to keep dinner and formalities on schedule. Adjusting microphone placement to avoid feedback. Making sure grandparents can hear the ceremony. Reading the room and knowing when to make a timeline adjustment before a small issue becomes a big one.
Sometimes it's as simple as listening. If the maid of honor mentions a song during her speech that was meaningful to the bride in college, an experienced DJ recognizes that opportunity and finds the perfect moment to play it later in the night. Those small, personal touches often become some of the most memorable moments of the celebration.
A great wedding reception feels effortless, but that's usually because someone is paying attention to dozens of details at once. The best DJs aren't just playing music. They're helping manage one of the most important days of a couple's life.
