šŸ’ A gift brought to us in full bloom during the months of early summer is the peony. This timeless and elegant flower is characterized by soft color and strong light effect in Jean Lightman’s ā€œJune’s Giftā€. Capturing every subtle nuance of color, she uses pinks, yellows, and purples to build up the vibrancy of the petals. As you move through the canvas from left to right, it is noticeable that darker purples and pinks transition to a lighter palette. Swipe to see a video of our skylight shining brightly on the canvas highlighting the sweet hues shifting , which our Director, Alex, pointed out. The camera doesn’t do it justice– visit our Newbury St. gallery and see it in person!

Have you ever wondered how artists like Pamela Pindell craft fine details in heavy materials such as bronze? Pindell’s sculptures are crafted using a technique with ancient origins - the ā€œLost Wax Castingā€ method. In this multi-step process, artists begin with a core, typically made of clay, which is then covered with a thin layer of wax. The artist then covers the thin wax layer with an inflammable material, such as plaster, so that, when heated to high temperatures, the wax melts out of the form, leaving behind a shell. Into this shell, the artist pours bronze, and as a final step, the artist sands down any remaining plaster or unnecessary bronze features. From the original wax steps forth a complete sculpture; Pindell joins a tradition spanning millennia. See her work and more at our Newbury Street Gallery!

šŸŒ™ John Terelak’s ā€œRising of the Moonā€ uses some of the most vibrant, vivid, and beautiful color combinations to create a magical sunset. The sky is colorized by orange, yellow, and rosy hues, creating an almost surreal setting. Purple and blues characterize the boardwalk and the ships, creating a strong contrast with the sky. This bold palette, while intense, works harmoniously together, giving the scene a sense of timelessness and an energetic feeling that bursts off the canvas.

ā„ļø In ā€œSterling Ridgeā€, Stapleton Kearns transforms slices of color into a winter scene. Tree branches pierce through a cold blue morning; as the viewer’s eye travels downward, the trees slowly fold together into deep woods. Three barns in reddish-purple, green, and brown peek from behind forested shadows, while the ground is covered in powdery baby blue. An example of Kearns’ impressionistic nature scenes, ā€œSterling Ridgeā€ embodies a cheerful New England winter day, balancing the brisk cold air with cozy wooden buildings.
