Spinning on DJ Scratch’s Ladies First show felt like a moment looping back .. like the rewind tricks I used to drop during my dancehall sets on WERS FM.

In the nineties, independent radio was the place to discover music. And those winding Beacon Street hallways… the old brownstones breathing history… the night I walked Scratch and Parrish through that maze while still covered in sweat from my Massive Mondays "Rockers" show ~ it all comes back in flashes and beats. Those rooms shaped me, tuned me, set my trajectory in ways I still am discovering.

To be invited into Scratch’s universe many yrs later was an honor and a reminder of how sound remembers everything. Vinyl especially. It keeps memories safe and sacred, the way the craft itself does: producing, selecting, dj as storyteller through grooves and intention.

This carousel is a taste of my many flavors as memories and moments woven together the way life weaves moments into meaning. Right now it's like a lifetime within a lifetime of lives. Being a DJ is like that, there are so many journeys in every set, and the people we are lucky to meet along the way are worlds in of themselves.

At the end I smile because I dropped a track from the same record and Parrish gifted me that night in the 90s - many thanks my brothers in music for the inspiration then and now.

Full circle. Fast forward. Still spinning. ✨

1978! is a dance party celebrating timeless music—disco, funk, R&B, soul, house music & beyond! This Halloween, 007 meets Studio 54 on Friday, October 31 as this legendary dance experience launches its exciting new monthly residency at Spy Bar Boston!

​1978 Founder & resident Selectress Iriela made her debut in 1996 on the airwaves of WERS-FM Boston, and now returns home as an international DJ, producer, and special agent of vinyl to deliver a experience you won’t forget. From 9pm–2am, she’ll spin the sounds that defined generations—reimagined for 2025.

Prepare for a night that transports you into a hi-fi fusion of music, art, fashion, and dance, reimagining the golden age of Studio 54 with the intimate modern energy of Spy Bar—a hi-fi vinyl listening lounge tucked beneath The Revolution Hotel at 40 Berkeley Street. Expect craft cocktails, bold late-night bites, and the signature drink “I Feel Love”—where smoky mezcal meets honey on your tastebuds.

​​The night ignites with The Early Edition Disco at 7pm—an exclusive warm-up for the movers and groovers who like their nights bold but their mornings intact. Slide in early, claim your spot on the dance floor, and let the DJ set the vibe as cocktails flow and the energy builds toward Selectress Iriela’s full-throttle Studio 54 takeover at 9pm.
